I’m currently testing an Apple Watch series 4. My dad rarely used it so he told me to give it a try. Honestly prefer the Garmin Watch/App user experience for running so far, but really don’t want to spend $200+ for a Garmin 245 when I have a $600 Apple Watch for free.

Any of y’all using the Apple Watch over a dedicated running watch?

I have used an Apple Watch for the past few years. I am currently using a series 3 GPS only model. Overall, I think it does a fairly good job. I’m not sure how accurate the heart rate monitor is while running but it’s consistent. I like being able to play music/podcast from my watch to my earbuds without the need for my phone. I

If there’s any specific questions/information or want to know about I may be able to provide an answer.

The biggest plus for you is it’s free!

I know it’s a pretty big plus!

I guess my one gripe vs Garmin is how fragmented Apple is. Usually their thing is streamlining everything to work flawlessly. With the Apple Watch you have to 1) use the workout app to do a workout 2) use the activity app to look at your run or track daily activity 3) use the health app to view run details and 4) use a 3rd party app to grab the data from the health app and export to Strava. That’s insane. I also like the graphs and additional metrics Garmin gives as well as the ability to track shoe mileage. Lastly the battery life is much better on Garmin.

I think it’s just going to take getting used to a new interface. I don’t dislike the Apple Watch, just realize that it’s not the best for dedicated running...but I also knew that when I got it.

I guess to me most of your complaints aren’t an issue for me because I’ve never used a Garmin

The third party app to link to strava is a non issue for me because it’s automatic. As soon as I finish a workout it automatically uploads my data to strava and map my run.

Had I been looking for a dedicated running watch when I purchased the Apple Watch I may have gone a different route. One thing I wish I was able to do with the Apple Watch is have the ability to set up intervals. Right now I have to pay attention to distances while working out to do intervals. I think this effects my performance because it’s taking focus away from the workout.

Do any of you run with Waist packs? I have nowhere to put my keys and I hate running with stuff in pockets.

I used to run with a waist pack but switched to an arm band for my phone. I stick a key in a small pocket of my shorts or in a pocket of the arm band. The only time it is inconvenient is when I am traveling and have a hotel room key and/or bulky rental car key.

I don’t like running with anything. I used to run with my phone in an armband but have stopped that as well, unless I’m running trails. I usually hide my keys under my car

I run with one of these. I’m on my 2nd one, the first one lasted about a year.

I have just enough room in my arm band that carries my phone for a single key and any plastic cards I may need.

I run with a waist belt. It carries my phone. The shorts I run in have a small zipper pocket on my back side just above my waist, which is where I keep my keys.

I run as naked as I can. I will pack a single car key hopefully in my shorts pocket, if not I'll hide it or carry it in my hand.

I use a Spibelt. It is perfect for me. It holds my phone and my car key.

Going for sub 1:50:00 half this weekend with my previous best chip time of 1:52:59 in October.

Since then: 5K PR, 165 quality training miles, long runs of 15,17,& 18, two 13 mile training runs, and lost some body fat.

I'll run hard , see what happens, and give it my best.

Good luck man, you got this. Is it a race or just a training run?

if anybody is in the market, amazon has a few good deals right now on Garmins

VivoActive Music

Forerunner 45

Garmin Instinct

i'd like the instinct, but my forerunner is working just fine so i can't justify it like i do with shoes.

Good luck. With the work you’ve been putting in I have no doubt you’ll get your time.
