On a side note, what do you guys do for longer interval training? I typically do ~7-8 miles with 2 mi WU, 2 mi @ ~9:00 or faster pace, 2 mi @ ~8:00 pace, and then 2 mi @ MP

It depends on the purpose of the training and where I am in my cycle.

That looks a little like a structured fartek or a progression run, depending on what your goal race pace is.

3x3 mile @ 10 -15k pace with 4 min jog in between is a good one in preparation for longer stuff. It’s a real good one to go back to for confidence.

That looks like a solid lactate threshold workout for a marathon.

Roots,

Mardi Gras 15K Feb 8th--> You should sign up and make it the 1st Annual TD Group Run!

I'd drive in from Houston to run it with you if some other local people signed up.

BRM,

3x3 mile @ 10 -15k pace with 4 min jog in between-->>

Is it too late to mix this in 8 weeks out from my full ? It fits for my Wednesday run but I want to make sure I have enough time to benefit from it.

If not, I'll build it into my next full plan.

I’d put it closer to 5-6 weeks out. Maybe even 4.

That date won’t work for me. Got an 8k same day. :( Sorry

BRM,

4 weeks out: Done and thanks !

Currently my Hal Higdon plan gives generic 5-10 mile pace runs on every other Wednesday, from week #1 to taper.

I can feel it now , my next plan needs more "workouts" like you, Kballa6, and LSU Patrick were discussing. Since you all & the Higdon online coaches promote as many structured races as you can find, my halfs are essentially 13 mile pace runs so I can still check that box.

I'd definitely be down for that, but just gotta see how the rehab is going. I should know more seeing as how the next 3-4 weeks go. Proceeding with the utmost caution Brah!

Thanks BRM.

Yeah Rick, this was a structured run from NYRR during my training. I liked it so I went back to it this morning. I'm just looking for something a little more intense. The 3x3 will be a good switch that I will try.

I have three weeks left including the current one.

This Week (~52 Miles Total):

M: 2 mi WU; 2 mi @ 7:45 pace, 2' jogging recovery, 2 mi @ 7:45 pace; 2 mi CD (~ 8 Miles)

Tu: 4-Mile Recovery Run

W: 9 Miles EZ with 8 X 12" hill sprints (~10 miles)

Th: 2 mi WU; 5 X 1K @ 7:10 pace w/ 90" Jogging Recoveries: 2 mi CD (~7.5 miles)

F: 7 mi Recovery Run

S: 7 Mi EZ Run

Su: 2 mi WU; 5 mi @ 7:45 pace; 2 mi CD (~9 miles)

My total mileage will decrease to about 40 miles next week and about 30 miles race week.

I ran 6 miles straight for the first time last night and you’re running 7 miles for a “recovery”.

IT Band syndrome has me shut down for about a week. I got an injection yesterday and will try to cross train for a few days before trying to increase mileage again. About 7 weeks till LA marathon, I’m hoping I can get a least one 20 miler in before. I guessing I’m going to have to drop my goal for the race.

Any magic tricks for ITBS? I’ve been doing NSAIDS, stretching, and rolling.

The only time I had it I was not able to run for about 5-6 months. I tried stretching, rolling, steroid injections, and physical therapy with very minimal improvement. After about 4 months I got an ACP injection (similar to PRP). Within a few weeks I was much better.

It may not have been so severe had I listened to my body and shut it down when I first started having symptoms.

We’re all at a different place my man. half the people in this thread are comparing themselves to middle tier runners and middle tier runners are comparing themselves to upper tier. Then those guys are staring at Burt’s arse.

I tweaked my back this morning pouring water out of an iced down deer. Completely threw my back out for the morning but a good 5 mile interval seems to have done a lot more than heating and stretching.

Running has been very humbling. As a 40 year old man, racing against teenaged girls and getting dusted takes some getting used to.

You flatter me. I don’t post my training mostly because either I’m scared a newbie will either try to mimic it, get hurt and give up or just go nope and not try.

The type and amount of training I do is not typical which I one thing I won’t be hard on myself for.

Meanwhile, I can now run again after Saturday

Had my first 10K today. I wanted to pace it at 9:00/mile and turned in a 8:40/mile. Felt great the whole time and felt like I could have done better. Got a little nervous to start..... first mile was downhill and I paced it at 7:30/mile. I was concerned about burning out too fast. I paced it back and never split over 9/mile.

Knocked out 10 miles today. Feeling pretty good wish the pace was close to 10 flat the whole time. But did 8-10 at 930

As some of you saw, did a 5K virtual race today. First one like that. Super hard to pace myself. Went out super hard. Sub 21 which was a PR so I’m pretty happy. Had some left at the end though. Still pleased.
