are you trying to go at 7:30 for a run over 1 mile? totally doable for most, but if you've just gotten good at running a quick 1 mile and little training beyond that it'll be pretty hard to string them together.

I did a heavy leg day the day before the run,

No, I tried to pace myself. My 'plan' yesterday was to try to average 9 minutes the first two miles then give myself some walking time for mile 3 (which I actually nailed the first mile, with no real guess for what a 9 min pace would be going into it). Problem is, I felt just as tired after that 9 minute mile as I do after I put down a 7:25 mile
I think I need to forget about time for a while and just start trying to put together longer distance runs without breaks.

Yeah you need to build a base for a month or two. I’m in this process now. It kinda sucks but it is what it is.

Just hit 2 grand for the year. If I can stay healthy, I think next year could be special because I've never really taken training this seriously. I'll be in kind of an unknown area of aerobic fitness I think by year 3-4 (if I'm very lucky). December will be my two year running anniversary and I'm in about as good of running shape as I was as a senior in high school. Really wish I would have taken it seriously back then.

I’m on track to get to 1k by late September, early October.
I didn’t participate in a local 5k today but you could have had an easy one Burt. Winning time was 20:50ish. But that kid has a walk-in offer to Harvard. He’s normally sub 20.
My group ran and took 9 out of the top 20 between them and their kids.

I saw that you were about to hit 2K; that’s awesome. I’ll be at 1K in around 2 weeks. Local guy ran the Sea Weeze HM today in Vancouver, looks like a cool one. 6:06 pace, not sure where he placed.
Saw Walms won another 50 miler in Europe and Hazen was leading Leadville for awhile then dropped. Getting pretty giddy about our fall race season, Baws.

Did my second ever trail run today. Needless to say I’m hooked. I am going to try and make most of my Saturday runs on the trail.

The 30k today was so miserable.....I can't wait to do it again next year. Ambulance was there at one point, just glad it wasn't me. Holy heck it was hot

I have a 25k trail run race coming up, but luckily it is in October. I couldn't imagine doing that in this heat and humidity.

I followed it on Instagram yesterday. Eff that noise. I almost died from humidity during a 5:30 AM run.
There’s one guy in my neck of the woods who is ran it. Need to see how he did.

I was doing my trail run this morning and ran right up on a coyote. He stood his ground and stared at me. I promptly turned around and backtracked. No thanks. Scared the shite out of me. Haha

Interesting. Coyotes usually scamper away. I pass deer mostly but have seen the occasional coyote and a bobcat once. Saw a fox this year in Tyler which is cool because they don’t have them where I grew up or live now. Colorado, I came across bear tracks in the snow on a run. That was cool.
Then there’s always the snakes. I’ve legitimately only seen a few rattlesnakes and one coral but at 5:40 AM, every tree root under a headlamp looks like a rattlesnake or copperhead.
ETA: you can totally kick a coyotes arse hand to hand most likely. Not saying I advise it or am a billy badass, but I don’t fear those things at all. I’m more worried about rabies than one actually hurting me, unless it’s a pack.

Could've been a grey fox. Im not too good at identifying these things. Either way, my run wasn't dependent on continuing that direction so I just let it be to its area.
If I had my good camera, it would've been a great photo. It was lit up by the golden hour sunrise.

Marathon training starts the 2nd. I’m doing a 12 week hybrid plan design that’ll include high mile long runs and the 5 in three principle with speed. Guess we’ll see what happens.

Did 15 this week for my plan and wasn't terrible. Actually felt I had strength to keep going. Planning 18 this weekend, so we'll see.

I’m not worried about doing 15, I can walk a decent amount with no shame.... it’s 15 with 2500 ft climb and an entirely rock surface to run and climb on in South Texas.
