Do it. Free to stay at my house for the weekend, although I can't promise my children wont be waking you up every 30 minutes on my command.

I accept your challenge
Gotta get back into it. Been hitting 2 miles here and there, wife is doing a half in Nashville in September so I need to get the mileage back up. Not running + drinking beer in the summer = 10 lb weight gain since my half in March.

Just made my decision, NS it is. Course is much better anyway, no shitty N.O roads. I’ll just eat the $50 Jazz entry or try to defer.
C’mon down, Burt. Without looking at the times from last year I’d say you’ve got a good shot at the tape.
Seems like we could end up having a pack running it, fuggin awesome. Extra motivation. Thib has commitment issues, but maybe we can get Pierre on board and he’ll follow suit.
Feeling really good ahead of the plan starting Sunday. Making an effort to implement plyo/strength/hip work, along with lax ballin’. Bottom of the feet is a game changer. Feeling rather fluid right now, but maybe that’s just from the Kenyan running YouTube videos I’ve been watching. Weight down to 132 this am, the melt is on. Crazy.

Winner went 1:12:25. 2nd place went 1:17:51. Burt could win it. Certainly place in Top 3.

Speaking of melt...
Are you guys running without walking much this summer? I’ve had 2 runs in south Texas around 100 degrees and I’m walking a bit every mile or mile and a half. I’m always a bit of a walker on long runs just to regroup, but the last 2 days have been ridiculous.
This is worse than where I normally run but I almost passed out yesterday about a mile from the Mexican border and decided to play it safe after that.

I haven't had to walk any yet, but my effort has definitely been affected. HR through the roof at an "easy" pace, etc. Unfortunately, due to life, most of my runs occur between noon - 3:00. I like to think of it as brutal conditioning and getting a tan in the process.

Been feeling way stronger than last year in regards to the heat. It’s not really phased me that much. I put in a lot of hard effort this spring though and so far it’s paying its dividends. Some days are definitely hard but it’s not like last year when I would struggle to get 4 miles in at peak day.

Heat hasn't really bothered me much, but I start most of my runs around 6:00-6:30am. It's humid, but I just deal with it. Had a good 5 miler this morning averaging just under 7:00/mile for the first 4 and then a strong last mile (6:28).

Your daily paces are pretty impressive. Do you do all of your runs around the same pace? What are your goals for the Northshore Half?
Posted on 6/19/19 at 10:21 am to TigeRoots
3.0 in a little over 26 on Monday. 2.0 in a little under 17 yesterday. It was mighty hot out yesterday.
Gonna go for 3.0 more today. Hope it isn’t as hard as it was yesterday.
Pace goal: 9:09 per mile
Plan: Hal Hudson Novice I Half Marathon Profram

Pretty much. I generally gravitate to a similar pace for most of my runs, with a few faster and a few slower depending on how far I'm going. I have zero desire to do traditional speedwork, because that's not why I run. I'm sure I could become a faster runner doing that, but I just enjoy the quiet alone time while running. I don't want to have to think about anything.
Northshore half goal is to keep it around a 7:00 pace. If the stars align and the weather is favorable, I'd love to go sub-1:30. But if you've ever run that race, you know how hot it can get in the sun on the Trace for miles 10-12 or so. That section has killed my pace on more than one occasion.
Plus, I'll be at the LSU-Auburn game on Saturday, no matter what time it is. So I'll either be super tired because it's a night game, or super dehydrated because it's a 2:30 game.
But, I'll get to run a pretty course then go hang out at Old Rail to rehydrate.

Oh yeah, for sure.
Hoping for the 2:30 start to LSU/AU. Hoping I can fight the urge and get through it sober.

The older I get, the more I come to appreciate these 2:30 games.

Burt... We would greatly appreciate if you could just confirm in writing that you'll be running in the NS Half. Thanks.

Arky @ Bama the day before. Burt may be in T-Town!
Posted on 6/19/19 at 2:33 pm to Black n Gold
Looks like I can’t because it’s too close to my full. Only 3 weeks between the two.
Posted on 6/19/19 at 2:44 pm to BurtReynoldsMustache
I guess it's true what they say... you Ark runners are scared of races without downhills.

The Houston Half is that same day so it looks like we will have a large group running that weekend and training hard up to it.
I'm still bouncing goals around ..it will be week #8 of my marathon training (9/1 start) but I'm going to use July & August for 30+ mpw & weekend long runs.
The next goal I have to get is run with 1:55 pace group and finish around 1:53:XX.
