Anyone have a handheld water bottle they can recommend?

I have this Orange Mud one. It's fine. I'll start using it again pretty soon as the weather heats up.

Going for a gait analysis tomorrow at Oschner in BR. Not sure what to expect, other than some treadmill running of course. Supposed to be about a 90 minute ordeal. Hope they don't tax me too hard on race week!

If you're going to see Kasey, it'll be easy. You really only run on the treadmill for about 10 minutes, most of which is just warming up and cooling down. Then you get to go through all the video he took.

Do you think you would rather a soft flask? At least to avoid the sloshing.

Yeah, that's him. Did you do it? Get anything out of it?

Actually, I use a Camelbak insulated flask to avoid the condensation and help keep the water cooler. About the only time I even use it is in the summer. I think my marathon days are over, so it's rare that I even go on a run long enough to bother bringing water.

A lot of my crew runs with Nathan vests and are a fan. A bottle is a bottle to me.

I hate running with something as small as keys or a phone so something like a vest or water bottle is just an unwanted irritant. I have a short trail in my town and a long one. The long one I’ll take water out because you can go 10 miles away from your car before turning around. Smaller trail I’m never farther than 2 miles from my car so I never bring one.

I’ll bring the bottle and camel back for Colorado just because I know my family will need it.

It’s been like 3 years, and was part of recovery from a knee injury, but back then he showed me that I actually had too much forward lean and I needed to work on upping my cadence for better efficiency. I never really followed up, but I haven’t been injured since so...

But Kasey is good people. Chatted with him for a while at Zapp’s Beer Fest a couple weeks ago. The move to Oshner has been good for him.

My next meaningful event is my 1st full in January 2020 and that training plan starts September 1st.

My question is this --> What should I focus my Sunday long runs on until then ? I have a good chuck of time to work and improve and I dont mind getting after it.

This is my first time running without a "structured" plan so I'm lost and dont want to waste these months.

I was doing this plan while attempting to get my half goal at a June race-->

Mon: 1 hour @ 155 heart rate

Tue: 400 or 800 meter speed work

Wed: 1 hour @ 155 heart rate

Thurs: 4 - 6 miles alternating between easy and 10K pace

Saturday: goal pace -15 for minimum of 4

Sunday: timed runs from 1:30:00 to 2:10:00

Since I made my goal time, do I just keep doing this or run with a different fundamental goal until September ?

I feel great & healthy at 34 miles per week average over the last 8 weeks.

What kind of day before run should I do?

Light 3 mile jog? Just stretch?

3NO random subject change...we have a crew signed up for Ragnar Trail Texas (formerly Hill Country RIP) at the end of October. You and your crew happen to participate in that?

Not that I know of but I’ll look into it.

They’re doing Tejas’ Pandora box of rocks next week ( I’m not) and the next race I know of is J&J in September.

I’ve been a fat piece of shite this week and ran little to none.

Pretty efficient plan there. Depends on if you subscribe to the high mileage or high intensity school of thought. Maybe get a race or two in before your marathon plan kicks in. Adjust your speed work for that and increase your miles during the week a little.

I think it always helps to vary your runs. Also, not really sure what the benefit of keeping your heart rate @ 155 for 2 runs a week is.

Almost forgot, good luck to all the CCC racists this morning!

BRM,

Thanks for the input.

I added the 2 runs @ 155 from some blog on improving fitness for new runners. I'll vary that 2nd run with something else that can increase miles.

With my work from home schedule and being injury free I'm going to get to 35-40+ mpw this summer.

I dont have a school of thought yet on miles / intensity since I need a couple years to learn + drop my last bit of weight. It will be trial & error ...with more error haha.

Didn’t hit 40:00, which was my “lofty” goal. This one hurt, not sure I had anymore in me today. Couldn’t get my legs to turn over. Kinda bummed, but oh well.

No shame there. It's been a tough couple of weeks to train in with the heat/wind, rain. Good result and you're so close. You have to be hungry after being right there, maybe find a 10k a month out and give it another go? Then go into the summer training with the knowledge fall racing season is going to be your bitch. Good job!

That’s still moving. Nothing to be ashamed of there. Nice job!
