Week off has been brutal!

Been dying to get back out there in this beautiful weather.

I like it. I’ll roll with that. Thanks everyone.

2 weeks out from my half. i've been on no training plan whatsoever, but feel like need to get some longer trail runs the next week and a half to get the feet up to snuff to doing trails that long.

I took an unplanned day off today. The wife is out of town, and I'm home alone with the kids. 28 degrees didn't motivate me either. So I used it all as an excuse not to run. Then I felt guilty all day.

I'll try to get in a quick 6 tomorrow before they wake up.

He could also throw in strides after his distance runs if he doesn't already. Good for turnover and form.

Definitely need to do more of these. Always in the back of my mind toward the end of a run, but never come to fruition.

Asking the wife to do anything like that comes at a cost.

Since I'm not training for anything specific, I'v changes my approach up a little so that I get an extra mile or two in on my weekday runs, followed by a shorted long run. My wife does shift work, and waking up at 4:00 in the morning to get 15 miles in doesn't get me to excited. I think my long run was accounting for too high a percentage of my weekly miles anyway.

Did 8 Saturday at 8:27 avg pace. Be nice to get some speed work in this week if the weather would cooperate

i actually haven't trained for anything since my first half almost 2 years ago and that was haphazard at best.

my son ran a few 5ks and a 10k with me last year and training to get him ready was the extent of it. i just try to keep my mileage up so that if a situation arises i can be ready. it's been a lot more of seeing how many miles i can get in a week, month or the year, or elevation challenges on Strava the last 2 years.

Did get any long run this weekend.

Bike spin 2hrs then ran 3miles @ 7:30. Today was just one of my typical boot camp workouts. I have training weeks and 6 weeks until my next race. I need to get on the bike more. I'm slow.

They're a game changer if you ask me. I walk around for a little bit after my run, grab some water, and finish up with 6-8x100m strides. Barefoot if I'm somewhere i know I won't roll an ankle or step on glass. Soccer fields or football fields are perfect for it.

Yes, I can definitely use form/breathing work at faster paces. I'm honestly just not that used to running at 5K or lower pace too often. Been trying to get at least one day of speed work in per week, but it doesn't always happen.

This race weekend has sort of crept up on me! You probably have all your weekend plans lined out, but I'll drop you my email on Strava. Feel free to hit me up - I can at least give you some course knowledge. The post-race scene is usually pretty good, so I plan to hang around for a bit.

Have you checked the weather yet? Accuweather has wind chill in 20s, 12 mph winds, possible winter mix - go figure.

Got your email

I have seen the weather, looks rough. Just a few days ago it looked perfect.

Did 14X these today. Felt great; confidence boost like you mentioned. I’m thinking of bumping up to 2:00/1:00 speed/rest next week, to extend the speed duration. I would get near/at threshold HR right as the fartlek was ending. Would like to maintain that longer. Although I technically spent 40 mins @ threshold in the recent 15K.

So a hard 5K should be mostly anaerobic, correct? Not looking forward to that shite at all!

No shite man. Ballz 2 The wallz.

Heard plenty say that a fast 5K is more impressive than a running a fast Full.

I feel like I’m pretty well trained for my potential (which ain’t much) for 10K-13.1. Have no clue what to expect going all out for 5K.

I did (or attempted) to do one of my old favorite workouts today.

I have a park almost exactly 2 miles from my house with a super steep short hill. Like you have to walk sideways down it.

Anyways, the workout goes like this:

Mile 1: 6:30 pace
Mile 2: 8:30 pace

10 - 20 sec hill sprints

Mile 3: 8:30 pace
Mile 4: 6:30 pace

I was unable to hold a 6:30 pace that last mile. Legs were just gone. Oh well. I’ll try to buil back up to it.
