I was sick all last week.
I have a 5k next weekend and I would like to get sub 21, but it’s a pretty hilly course, and I’m admittedly undertrained, so we shall see.

I hear ya. Course here is flat of course (BR) and realistically I’ll be around 21:00; with 20:00 as the all things clickin’ goal.

Nice.
The goal I gave myself for this spring was to get back under 20, so I plan on running more 5ks this spring.
Now with kid #2 arriving in about 4-5 weeks, we shall see how obtainable that goal will be.

Congrats dude. 4 month old has made this race season pretty interesting. Plenty of dirty looks from my wife for sure.

Damn. I just checked the standings in the 10 mile trail race series I'm doing and I'm currently in 22 place out of 217 after 2 races.
Kinda energizes me for the next and final race in May. I want to see if I can get top 20 now.
And the 30-35 age group is so goddamn competitive. The entire top 10 is in that age group
Definitely no chance of getting an age group award.

The older I get, the more I realize every age group is competitive.
I swear some of these triathlons, the masters end up being the overall winners.

in a lot of places it gets harder the older you get. i was 34 last year and 35 this year so a whole new bracket in most my races.
i did a 5k with my son about this time last year. he's 9 and won his age bracket easily with a 23:30ish 5k. which is damn fast for his age. I just stuck with him and won my age bracket (which is a knock on guys my age, not any credit to me.) if i had been in the 25-30 or 36-40 groups i wouldn't have even placed top 3. i think that same race had a 45 year old hit 20 minutes.

Anybody else enter the lottery for the NYC Marathon? Drawing is all day today.

Got in 10k this morning. Will be my last "long" run before I attempt the half marathon next Saturday.
I'll probably get a couple of 2-3 mile runs in between now and race time. My realistic goal is to finish, and hopefully finish sub 2:45. I would be extremely happy with sub 2:30 but that is going to be pushing it big time.

I'll bet the house you finish under 2:30. That is assuming you don't walk too much of it. Don't forget to get your sleep and some well rounded meals leading into race day.

Only my second year of entry and somehow I got picked, pretty freaking excited.

I did because I fricked up my half qualifier at the end of December. I did not get selected.
I will be running the White River Marathon instead. Now HogBody will be satisfied about me signing up for a marathon. Maybe some of y’all will sign up too. Super fast course.
Edit Congratulations! That’s a bucket list race!

Thanks! Already overwhelmed thinking about the logistics of everything. The actual running of the race doesn't scare me, it's everything else.

I finally got in. It was my fifth time entering the lottery

Congratulations to all the selected! I'm super jealous. NYM is the only marathon I'm concerned with qualifying for. I have no interest in Boston.
