Always fun just to go out and do long distance yourself. No ceremony. No one cheering you on. Just you and your own little accomplishment.
These days I mostly run to stay healthy and for the piece and quite away from wife, kids, and coworkers. Now that the school year is here, I expect my runs will be going longer and longer.

Easy 3 miles this morning.
Weights after work and will probably do a non-running workout tomorrow before a long run on Saturday.

Ran 5 miles on the treadmill last night. I had planned for 4, but I was feeling good and added a extra mile. Felt like I could have gone for more, but I needed to get home. Today is my sons first birthday and also a rest day, so that worked out well.
This weekend I have 9 planned, but I'm tempted to plan a 10 mile route because 10 just seems like a lot more than 9. If 9 is all I do, it will be the last weekend run less than 10 until my marathon.
As far as running a unofficial marathon you could run the 6 mile loop around the lakes 4 times but on two off the laps make your way into campus for a additional 1.1 mile. Even with cars around the lakes, I consider it safe and doable. Bathroom at Baton Rouge Beach and again roughly halfway each loop at the tennis courts by the golf course. You can use mapmyrun.com to create a route. I find it is pretty accurate. You could also look into Strava heat maps for popular routes wherever you are. When are you planning to do this? If you do it in Baton Rouge on a Saturday I could join you for however many miles I have planned that day, unless you plan on running sub 8 minute miles, then I may be out because I'm slow.

Thanks for the offer. I was hoping to run it somewhere on the Northsore, but I'm not against driving further to run a better route. I love running the lakes, but they have quite a many turns. Not ruling it out, just pointing it out.
I hover around 8/mile on my long runs now, but won't come close to that at marathon distance. Would love to come in under 9/mile, but may not be able to do so.

When are you wanting to run the marathon? Why wouldn’t it also be around 8/mile?

If you live on the north shore go do some training runs at Bogue Chitto on the trails. Will definitely be beneficial with the amount of inclines!

I'm shooting for sometime prior to December. My current schedule permits me to run only 3 days a week, with two of those days being less than 5 mile runs. Hard to build up the stamina that will allow me to keep 8/mile over 26.2. It's definitely a goal of mine, but I'm pretty realistic.

I see you are doing the LV marathon. I signed up for the half.
Got 4.5 miles in this evening. Was still 103 out at 8pm tonight. Fun stuff.

Hey kinda off topic. Talking about the lakes reminds me, back in the late 90’s there was a marathon that me and two buddies “ran” called Baton Rouge Beach Marathon. One of my friends developed sciatica the week before the race. Since his doctor only advised him against running it and didn’t tell him he couldn’t run it, he did it. We were on the course for almost six hours. He was getting so mad because as he pointed out he was getting passed by “old ladies”. Anyway the race advertised that they had alligator sauce picant. We were on the course so long all the had at the finish was water and Doritos. It was slow but the dude kept me in stitches all 26 miles. Good memories.

103...that’s nuts
Hopefully it’s nice and cool come November!

9.3 miles this morning. Not sure about pace. Just wanted to complete the distance.
Up to 20+ miles a week. Onward to the marathon!

Well shite. I love my Newton’s but they definitely don’t last long. Looks like new shoes before new Garmin.

What's the age of those? The roll paddle on Newtons are glued on? That going to keep me from trying a pair.

A year or so, I think. Maybe a bit older. But they don’t have that many miles on them.
And they are not glued on. They are attached on the ends with a very small piece of rubber.

Met my goal in the 15k w not much margin for error: 10 out of 22. There are some freaks of nature here in Missoula. I don't see how anyone actually ran (versus some power walk/crawl combo) the mile where you climb 704 feet, immediately followed by a 500+' climb mile.
No 1 in my age group was 48 and ran a 7:30/mi. Just insane. I'll post screenshot later. Terrific race day.
My glucose bomb + keto experiment worked mostly. It was just tough coming from sea level yesterday afternoon, to 7200 ft. Plus I'm apparently just a puss compared to these people.

I've only run one marathon, but I think a marathon is much more difficult than a half.
Much bigger step up to marathon than say the step from a 10k is to a half.
Something about when the body gets to around the 20 mile marker that a lot starts unraveling.

I'm already worried about this. I've read this from a ton of marathoners - even elite ones - that the real race doesn't start until the final 10k. That once you hit 20 miles, your body basically starts breaking down and generating a ton of cortisol to get you to stop.
I'm really mentally weak when it comes to running. It's why I struggle to get faster - once the going gets tough, I want to quit. I settle on those easy paces that don't feel like much work besides putting in the time to complete the distance. Outside of hills - which I thrive on for some reason - I don't feel like I'm exerting myself that hard.
So I know the 20 mile mark is going to be brutal for me.

I’ve heard this before as well, but this will be my first marathon so I’ve never experienced it.
I guess I’ll walk the last 10K if it comes to that
