I'll be damned if I run back towards my house, and still have like a mile and a half to go. I'll circle around some random neighborhood, so that I can finish the 13.1 right as I get back to the house

I specifically do long runs away from my house. 2 reasons:

my neighborhood is a historic district and there is 0 sidewalk and 0 streetlights. I can do some sprint/hillwork but I usually only do that if I sleep in.

2nd, I’ll find a way to go back to the house early if I don’t run away from my hood.

Put me down for Marine Corps Marathon 10/28/18. This will be my 18th Marathon but my first in 16 years. The heat and humidity sucks.

That’s a bucket list race for me. I’ll do it once the kids are a bit older and we can do touristy things after. Training for it down here is going to suck.

That’s actually what I use now

I actually filled up the memory and had to delete a bunch of old runs recently

So now I remember why I haven't trained for a marathon in 5 years...life is busy or always seems to get in the way.

No run today because we haven't had power since Sunday at noon and we are not supposed to get it back till tonight. So we were in a hotel last night.

And daughter has basketball game tonight. No idea when I'll be able to squeeze a run in.

Although I did do 6 800m sprints at 3:15 pace last night and I'm sore af this morning

I hear ya brotha. That’s why I had to take the approach of just be happy you’re out there doing a marathon rather than seeing how fast you can do it.

Also That’s why I tend to do a lot of plyometric leg work. Jumps, squats, lunges, help me stay strong and keep the cardio up so I can participate in such events.

Preach.

For the last 3 years, I've always had some goal for that year. Always put in the work to achieve it. Then took a break afterwards. Then kicked back up again in a few weeks with a new, larger goal. It's what lead up to my ironman. But now, I don't have a bigger goal. And the smaller goals I plan to fall back to aren't as interesting to me. It's just hard to find the motivation. Was supposed to do an easy spin on the bike last night, but talked myself out of it .

I have no idea how I was putting in the hours just 6 months (when I was actually a lot busier with work). I really need to drop some cash on race fees....that's usually a bit of a help for motivation.

30 minute treadmill run at lunch (I only measure treadmill runs in time, as I find pace and distance to be highly variable between machines). Even feeling great and in a cool environment with a fan, still a high HR. Don't care so much when it still feels easy. Hoping when I can get back on carbs, I'm like superman and everything goes back to normal.

Any of you guys in Mandeville/Madisonville area? I'm always looking for another running mate, especially on those long weekend runs. I typically put in 7-9 miles at around 8:30-8:45 pace.

No running today, hit some upper body circuits at the gym. Lower weights, higher reps on the weighted exercises.

Barbell bench (midway between flat/incline)/body weight pull ups/Mtn. Climbers

Barbell deadlifts/single arm, single leg db shoulder presses/plank

DB bicep curls/tricep kickbacks/supermans

Push ups (with legs in slings)/burpees/Donkey Toes

Probably won’t do too much running this week after yesterday, at least not the next few days. Will have to fight the urge.

Amen.
I work a little over 40 a week, but I have a lot to do around the house.
If work load increases any, no way I can properly train.
I'm convinced to be elite, you either don't work, or don't have many other responsibilities.

But, I'm probably wrong on this.

I work at least 40/week, but no kids and I can somewhat make my work schedule, usually choosing to work evenings

Before work:
4 Mile run

After work:
Squats and legs

Getting back into running isn’t as bad as I thought it would be.

How can weather forecasters be so wrong?

When I woke up at 6 this morning, it was raining. Forecast said 630 light rain. 7 no rain. 8 partly cloudy.

I even looked at the radar and saw the green clearing and nothing in the area for the foreseeable future.

At 650 when I started running, there was no rain. By 710? Torrential downpour for the rest of my run.

And stupidly I had my phone in my hand.

Anyways, 6.1 miles. 10:10 pace. I recognize I am slow but there were many steep hills to climb.

Hate the concept of 0% chance of rain. I've seen reports where Friday morning it will say 0% chance of rain for Saturday. Then by Friday evening, it'll bee 30%. How can that be. 0% means absolutely no chance. Hard to plan bike rides or runs. I usually just have a backup plan to do indoors for any major milestone workout.

Ran 3 miles yesterday afternoon. Temperature wasn't to bad, but a little humid. 1 mile warm up followed by 4 x 400m w/ 4oom job. I realize thats a much longer recovery period than should be performed, but it's also the first bit of "speed" work I have done in a long time. Next week I plan on increasing the quarters and decreasing the recovery periods.
