Somebody get this man a cookie!... and a glass of Bourbon.

Hopefully some easy days, rest will get you back right. I’m confident you know how to approach this, Burtland. I hear ya on the wind, man. Dealt with the 20 mph head wind on the backhalf of the 10 miler I did a couple months ago and it still haunts me. Felt great... until the turn.

I have an unhealthy disdain for high winds in general. I reckon the couple of winters I spent in the Chicago area and central Wyoming did me in.

And if last year’s times are any indication, you can win this thing.

Good workout today considering sore legs from the gym yesterday, 2-3 hours of sleep and warmer temps. Quads are pumped. About to roll em out.

1 WU
2 x 2 @ 10K pace (2@ 7:11, 2@ 7:16)/.5 rest
1 CD

I see a few recovery/stroller miles in the forecast for tomorrow.

I like looking at the runs in the Strava group and comparing the elevation changes here in AR vs south LA

Thanks man. That's the plan. Feeling good, legs are OK, nutrition has stayed on point even through the Holidays and I've been making an effort to implement post run foam rolling as a staple. I find it very helpful in ironing out the kinks (literally). Still severely lacking in sleep at times, but I feel like my recovery is adequate. Not like I have much choice there anyway.

One more week at peak mileage and then begin a 2 ish week taper on 1/7 for the HM on 1/20.

For sure. You can always use a baseline of 0 for La in your analysis.

I'd kill for a few local hills.

The fact that y'all are tearing it up at elevation makes it that much more impressive.

Any of you guys got some good running related gear for Christmas? My wife gifted me the Shalane Flanagan book Run Fast. Cook Fast. Eat Slow. Sorta a cookbook for distance runners. Also got some Squirrel Nut Butter from my son. I'm pretty sure he got it as a joke, but it was a much needed present.

Got 4 new running shirts for Xmas, so that was nice. I've done two slow, careful runs since I pulled a leg muscle, and no recurrence so far. Today my legs were really heavy after playing "3 flies in" with the teenagers on Xmas day. I'm going to run another fiver tomorrow, then shut it down for Saturday's race. If I am not feeling it, I may forego the 5k Saturday and just run the ten miler as a training run.

Got a couple pairs of shoes

Had a pretty rough run today. My calves are super sore after last couple of runs have been sub 7:00 pace, today I just struggled to get through the miles (and I had to cut it short a mile, needed to get back to the bathroom)

BnG - I’ve been meaning to take a look at that Flanagan book and will probably buy it soon. Lemme know how it is once you get into it.

Jay - What race are you doing? Laketown?

hb - You’ve been killing it. What kinda shoes you got Brah?

Looks like Des Linden will be doing the La Half. I’m planning to do it also. Anybody else doing any races out there?

Work schedule is not letting me make the LA Half. I'm doing the Amazing Half in March.

What is y'all's favorite brand of running shirts? Looking at getting some new ones.

I'm a fan of Saucony Hydralite shirts. If I can't find any online, I just scoop up something cheap. Most will do. Just make sure it's porous and is made of little to know cotton.

32 Degrees

Skora

My two favorite running shirts in the drawer. I think I got both at TJ Maxx or Marshalls.

Whatever you get, make sure that it's a polyester/spandex blend instead of straight polyester. The bonus being that you get to keep your nipples.

Yep. Hopefully it will not be too windy. Out and back courses on the lakefront can be brutal this time of year.

Yeah the Middendorfs 10 miler back half was no joke wind wise a couple months ago.

I have that one on my calendar but won’t be able to make it. Good luck man!

Another good brand. I enjoy running in their shirts. Unfortunately, the two I have do not have any reflective material, I mainly only use them when running in my neighborhood.
