Hello Health/Fitness:
I am looking to ditch the gym membership and make a home gym.
Want to start with a squat rack/bench/45# bar/~400# of plates. Not really looking to break the bank but want something that will last.
1) Anyone know reliable brand at a decent price? Or
2) Anyone know of second hand exercise equipment place within 1 hour of Baton Rouge. Or
3) Anyone selling on here?

TIA
Edit:
Besides the obvious
*I know Rogue and the obvious players, anything quality that isn't mainstream?
*Craigslist only has a health and beauty section and has very limited exercise equipment (racks/etc...)

Rogue is highest quality. Titan is decent, consistent quality that isn't as good as Rogue, but significantly cheaper.

I've bought all used stuff at local used sporting goods stores.

My best money saving ideas, buy flooring as horse stall mats from a place like Tractor Supply. The "gym flooring" you see is the same stuff at 3x the price. I'd invest in a serious rack/bar. Mine has been going strong for 3.5 years and you make up the investment with quality on the major pieces.

Hunt for plates wherever you can find them. Rogue will sometimes have discounts on used crossfit games plates after the crossfit games if you want high quality stuff discounted.

Plenty of really good brands but similar to rogue, mid range pricing really for him equipment

You can try hitting up super fitness used equipment but they are out of North Carolina.

Titan, getrxd, rep fitness aren't all a their lower then rogue with titan being the lowest but cheapest. But you get what you pay for.

If you are up for a drive to San Antonio, I believe fringe sport is having a garage sale this weekend.

Thanks guys! Lots of good advice. Think I have a good lead on rack/bar/few plates. Definitely going to go with the mats Rep suggested. I need 4 45# plates, would gladly take used- will look into the place in NC that 777 recommend, but anyone else have experience buying plates for cheap?

The standard barbell plates on rouge site are slightly cheaper (~$100), would you recommend these worth the extra $100?

Sort of. You're dealing with metal most of the time. If the gauge and welds are close, why not go with the cheaper alternative? Powder coating seems pretty straightforward with most of the brands now.

Titan rack seems like a really good buy in the 2x3 and 3x3. Their attachments seem good too and can go on the Rogues.

I completely agree in the barbell and benches though. Even then, a beater bar is highly recommended. I use the "free" barbell that came with my craigslist weight plates for rack pulls and a secondary bar for super sets.

Weights are whatever to me. I like cheap iron. I don't care if it is within a 1% tolerance or whatever. Some might be higher, some lower. It'll be roughly the same. The diameter is the more important part IMO.

Pretty much to answer OP is that everything used if you can except barbell.

Titan is fine so long as you get good welds which is a 50/50 shot with them. They are getting better though.

11g should be min requirement along with 2" hope spacing.

Benches, just make sure it's quality. Rogue, elitefts, reflex, sorinex, edge fitness, rep fitness, and plenty of others and all commercial benches are great. Ironmaster super bench is good too.

For bars I agree, 1 nice bar, 1 beater bar to start with.

With weights I agree, buy whatever

My buy once, cry once comes from years of experience. I have found those that buy cheaper end up selling and upgrading quite often.

Hit up the bigger CF comps in the area.

The rig/equipment vendor is always selling everything they use at the comps.
