Personally I drink nothing but water most of the time. Usually 140-160oz a day. I do drink a coke zero on saturday and sunday most weeks. I know that wont make any difference for me, but i have read studies on both sides of the fence and was curious of everyones opinion for people who drink them every day... weight gain, or no from coke zero. Now i know its zero cals so directly it can no5, but indirectly do you think it can cause your body to be confused with insulin levels and such to cause gain?

Most studies I've seen that say it's actively bad for you are either flawed or inconclusive. Diabetics can drink diet sodas all day and it doesn't really impact their blood sugar so I find it hard to believe it stimulates much of an insulin response. I do find it plausible that the sweet flavor could lead you to having more of a sweet tooth.

Ultimately, we know it's not actively good for you, and it doesn't appear to be actively bad, either so.. some moderate amount of intake is probably mostly neutral.

eta

The effect on the gut microbiome is still largely an unknown. If it drastically impacts the microbiome, then it's definitely a negative.

Yes. I haven't seen anything saying they are actively bad for you either.

This is purely anecdotal but I have stopped drinking all diet soft drinks for the past month (have only drank water, unsweetened tea, coffee, and milk) and have noticed that my sugar cravings have seemed to decrease.

I happen to think that diet/zero calories sodas are a god send. I don't know what it does to your insulin levels, but I know people that drink diet coke nearly everyday and they don't have any health problems nor has it prevented them from losing weight.

I don't drink many soft drinks, but sometimes you just want a damn coke and the diet ones are perfect

I feel like I eat more when I drink a coke zero compared to water, and I think studies have shown that people tend to eat 200-300 calories more when drinking diet soda.

Everyone that drinks diet drinks should replace it with Topo-chico or topo-chico with twist of lime.

Best beverage on planet earth.

What gets me with any soda products is the bloating after you’re done. I feel like it lasts at least 48 hours before I’m back to normal.

ETA: it might be because of how infrequently I drink them. My stomach doesn’t do well with a lot of soda products. I’ve really cut back since I graduated from college. Dr. pepper was my jam though

I mean just think about that shite in Soda you are putting in your stomach

It can help break down and clean toilets and sinks and people put that in their bodies.

This is a fallacy. Chemical reactions that happen in a toilet =/= what happens in your stomach. Oxygen and H2O rust iron, but you require both to live.

Clearly the reactions are not the same

But i still don’t want that shite in my body

Unless I’ve been drinking I make bad decisions when drinking

I don’t drink soda per say, but I do drink a lot of zero calorie energy drinks

People of course say they are awful for you, but whatever. I’ve dropped 50+ pounds since switching from the ones that contain sugar (not the only change I made)

The insulin response depends on which artificial sweetener is used. Aspartame which is in Coke Zero has a GI of 0. Now on the other hand read labels and watch for maltodextrin because that will spike your insulin like crazy.

Then don't drink tap water then. That chlorine is a killer.

Coke-zero has been associated with male pattern baldness and beta male syndrome. No thank you.

Man I need to give up that daily 12 ounce Redbull. Sodas I drink if they are available. But that morning Redbull is like crack
