Started IF six months ago. Besides being incredibly easy to implement and follow, as well as being the cheapest way I’ve ever gotten healthier, here it is:

Down 36 lbs total.
Cholesterol total
5/2018-200 11/2018-166

HDL
5/18. 42 11/18-47

LDL
5/18-103 11/18-97

Triglycerides
5/18-273 11/18-109

TSH
5/18-2.08 11/18-.54

Still waiting on A1C. All I changed was how often I ate and stuck to a window of eating for no more than six hours with a duration of at least 18 hours of fasting. 5-6 days a week in the gym rotating cardio/weights every other day.

That's awesome.

I was reading about how ultimately A1C isn't very useful. I'll find and post.

Congrats I started OMAD (one meal a day)in mid September I can't begin to tell you how much better I feel. I also have much more freedom with what I eat. I usually eat at noon and fast until the next day at noon. At first it was hard, probably just mentally hard and a mental adjustment. It is the best thing I have done for myself this year. I was concerned how it would affect my workouts--it has done nothing but enhance my workouts. I have lost weight, but no strength nor endurance.

You get so much more out of your hormones with fasting. Glad to hear the IF results here.

Just curious what you are eating for omad. I did omad for a month once. Pretty interesting stuff.

That's so awesome man.

It's as if our bodies aren't meant to ingest cereal at the crack of dawn because a commercial tells us to do so.

Congrats, that's awesome. My interpretation of your comments is that you are still eating the same amount of calories and exercising the same amount. Of course, you are likely able to get increasingly better workouts without the extra weight.

I've been doing a 24 hr fast about once/month and an 18 hr fast about once/week for the past year or two. I'm not looking to drop any weight so not sure that I'll ever increase my fasting, although probably could get more benefits if I did.

I started out trying to get the same calories in my window like before but it was not possible. After a month or so, I just was not as hungry as often. I guess I’m on a version of OMAD (modified Keto) with usually two Greek yogurts, two Kirkland bars, and two premier protein shakes in between. Most days now, it’s kind of a struggle to finish that. Lots of water still ( gallon a day average) and unsweetened tea as my other drink choice. Appreciate the words of encouragement.

I just eat normal stuff. Nothing out of the ordinary. I try to eat a little more than I would normally eat so that I have sufficient calories.

The max window is 8 hours.

Some eat during a 6 hour window, 4 hour window, or even one meal a day.

How much do you run?

This lifestyle can be catered to most individuals. Whether eating a meal before training or all post training.

I’ve been on a fasting diet for the better part of 5 years now. I’m 41 and healthier than any other time in my life. 6’1” 170 lbs.

Basically I am able to eat from 5pm-9pm each night. Usually a dinner that I cook for the family with an extra helping of protein. I will tack on a snack before I hit 9 and cruise until next evening. I do start the day with 1, 10oz cup of coffee to help get the blood moving.

I lift weights for about 15-20 minutes a day at home with no distractions. Usually about how long it takes to break down 1 muscle group per day. Shoulders, Biceps/Triceps, Core, Legs. I don’t do cardio on off days but usually work in the yard or fish.

I don’t pound a lot of water but drink when I’m thirty. My metabolism is better than when I was in my 20’s. I’m leaner than I was in my teens. I’m stronger than I’ve ever been. The hot moms in school pick up line and in the store definitely notice but lucky for my wife I’m not like that.

P.D Mangan on Twitter is a good follow if interested in more about this lifestyle.

Can it be catered to caffeine addicts? I've read mixed reviews on drinking coffee. Most seem to say it's okay if you drink unsweetened/black coffee. Thoughts?

TIA

I did a month of omad with a ketosis focused diet, except saturday I'd eat a large pizza. I lost a pound everyday and then gained three from the pizza. That was at 6' 220, to 200. When I was deadlifting about 400 and bench about 225 for perspective on what my weight looked like. I did start the month out with a three day water fast though.

I've read that caffeine does mess with triggering insulin which defeats the purpose of fasting. But they say you can get away with the equivalence of one cup of black coffee. That translates down to 2 cups of black tea, 4 cups of green tea, or 8 cups of white tea. I'd usually have green tea to make it through the day.

Longevity & Why I now eat One Meal a Day

LSU777 might chime in and he does a good job at explaining it, drinking coffee in theory will break a "dry fast" however if coffee is your thing continue drinking it during the fast.

If it helps you maintain focus in the morning as well not to have the urge to snack then keep drinking coffee. 95-99% of your progress is through calorie intake and training.

I’m a triathlete and train at pretty high volumes 12-15hrs/week and eat pretty clean, but when I intermittent fast (12pm-8pm eating, fast for 16 hours) I find my endurance improves tremendously, I lose weight (a very high percentage fat), and my digestion is almost perfect. I’ve gone about 6 weeks pretty religiously and am back in a great place!
