I think Rhonda covers this in the podcast. I know there are some out there that believe the possible increase in cortisol and the associated rise in blood sugar negate the effects of the fast, the vast majority of people that cover the topic seem to say non caloric beverages are fine. This includes coffee. I guess you could always roll with decaf black coffee just to be safe?

either way in the end it doesnt matter when it comes to losing weight. Atleast not on any appreciable scale. take in less calories than you burn, you lose. pretty simple.

I don't usually ever agree with OleWar but he's right.

Different opinions, but I do 12 hour IF 6-7 days week and I just go without everything. Easiest way for me is eat last meal at 5:30-6pm and coffee 12 hours later. Helps that I’m usually out by 9pm

do you drop weight quick doing this?

I am trying this for the 2nd time,
Coffee only until 12.
Eat 500 cal lunch
Snack boiled egg maybe an apple
Eat 500 cal Supper no later than 7:30pm

Did 5 days, relaxed it over the weekend (but did not go crazy)

Back on it This Monday
have not dropped any weight, same as last time I tried.
Has anyone had same experience?

Ending the day less than 1500cal, cant understand why I am not dropping weight.

Also training everyday

first what is your stats right now? Why are your calories so low? how much protein are you eating?

as far as not dropping weight, you are holding water are you are eating more than you realize on the weekends.

I also just started back on IF.

stopped eating at 5:00 PM yesterday! had black coffee at 5:40 am, and I won't eat anything until 11:00 AM.

I actually listened to a podcast with Satchin Panda (the guy Rhonda Patrick gets most of her info from) on it over the weekend. The drinking coffee thing has more to do with breaking your sarcadium rytthyms more than anything and he’s more opposed to it as a replacement for food later in the evening.

I've read that caffeine can break a fast. Read one cup of black coffee is maybe tolerable. Which means two cups of black tea, four cups of green tea, or eight cups of white tea are tolerable.

As previously stated, if you are just wanting less calories then it is fine. But if you were going for true fasting health then you can't have much caffeine either.

Yes to excess weight, but slower for vanity pounds at a much healthier weight. I’ve got 10lbs to go and honestly if it takes 10 weeks to get there it’s still only mid April so that’s fine by me.

Realistically I think by end of Feb I should be down to 175 from 185.

When I lost weight a couple of years ago I was not losing weight when my calories were too low. I upped them a couple hundred and started losing. A couple hundred more and I would maintain. But too low I felt bad and did not lose a thing. It was discouraging.

You can't switch to a zero calorie sweetener? Splenda tastes pretty good, and is sweeter than sugar.

at this caloric level you should be losing weight quickly. give it 2 more weeks, if you aren't you have a metabolic disorder of some kind and we can go from there(prolly to strict arse keto unfortunatly.)

thanks for your input, I tried this in the past no longer than 2 weeks and got disgusted at no weight lose.
I am working in Singapore so I really don't have much to do. Work/Workout/eat. I found a company that meal preps and that is what I am using for food.
LINK

I am only ordering meals that have the chicken.
2 of these meals a day, and only other thing I am taking in is 1-2 boiled eggs some days either 1 apple or 1 pear, but this all happens in my window of 12-8.
Coffee in the morning and water rest of the day

I am really stumped at this one,
Just does not seem right,

so I have been doing this for 17 days, with 1 day in the middle that I broke the fast. started at 230, at 226 now. I have weight/cardio trained everyday.
My regular training before I did the fast, was 5-6 days a week.
I am out of town for work so I am training everyday.

Not sure where to go from here. I have enough pre made meals to follow what I am doing until Monday.

I will be doing some research over the next few days to see if I will try something else

I don’t think 4 lbs in two weeks is all that bad but id you are miserable, switch it up. Have you ever tried to eat whole foods until satiety? Don’t worry about counting anything, just don’t eat anything processed (this includes bread and pasta). If it comes in a box, it’s out. So, a slightly more varied Paleo diet. Try to fit in 6-9 serving of fruits and vegetables per day at a 1:2 ratio (include both leafy greens and cruciferous veggies). Continue to eat meat/fish as well, dealers choice. Look up Paleo, the Wild Diet, Whole 30.
