not really. I would suggest, if you don't want to buy bulk powders, rise performance BCAA or true nutrition EAA plus.

I see Steel makes ones that combines both BCAAs & EAAs. Any clue if that would work?

Probably a dumb question, but I am wondering if you are able to drink 5 hour energy while in the fasting period. I usually drink coffee and that works perfect. I have to take a 9 hour test in about a month and we get a couple of breaks in between. Figured at about the halfway point, I would like some caffeine. But won’t be able to get a hot cup of coffee.

What could I do that wouldn’t break the fast?

Not worry about fasting during a 9 hour test. Just don’t worry about it that day and enjoy life.

Wouldn't worry about it that day but you can have a five hour energy if it doesn't have calories. I drink monsters all the time. It is trashy as frick though

Hahaha. Ehh it happens. I was just wondering about it. I feel like I have been focusing better and getting a good amount of studying in while fasting. I’ll see how I do in the upcoming weeks with it so test day, I am ready to go.

Thank y’all again!

i was wondering about this. I know they don't have calories, but i didn't know if any of the other ingredients would cause an insulin spike or whatever.

And the only reason i say that is b/c i heard it on a youtube video and it said that qualifies for breaking the fast

Either way, I went pick up a new pair of running shoes over the weekend and am looking to see how IF really works while actually trying while also exercising and eating healthy.

Any tips food wise to help out? Really don't want to go searching through 12 pages.

The caffeine in energy drinks causes an increase in the secretion of adrenaline and glucagon which cause the body to secrete stored blood sugar (glycogen) from the liver, which in turn cause an increase in insulin secretion from the pancreas.

I started to IF at the end of January. I also started watching what I eat (to an extent). I've lost 12 pounds since then and didn't work out. I started back at the gym today as I want to lose about 15 more pounds. I started at 231, I'm now at 219, and I want to get to 205. I'm 6'2 and have a good frame to put on muscle. I'm also 41 years old

which means it does break the fast?

If so, why does the caffeine in from coffee not do the same?

I’ve got a question about blood work. I recently had blood work done - drawn at 7:45 am, had been fasting since 8:00pm the night before, and had pre-workout and worked out at 5:00am prior to having labs drawn.

My fasting glucose was 101, A1C was 5.2, and Insulin was 3.4

I’ve tried to do some research to figure out why my glucose would be high and it seems that it may be a result of gluconeogenesis? Adaptive glucose sparing, or “physiologic insulting resistance”? This article is what I’m basis this on:

Diet Doctor: fasting blood sugar

Has anyone run across this or does anyone have a better, more scientific explanation?

You probably should not have worked out. That would have given you a better result bc your body would have been in a rested and faster state. Working out could have thrown all your numbers off.

Coffee has the same effect, but does not necessarily break the fast. There is what is known as the "dawn effect" where your body naturally wakes you by dumping sugar from the liver in the early morning hours, and this effect does not break the fast. However, and this is just me thinking out loud, since the object of the fast is to use up the insulin in your system, then having a cup of coffee in the early morning when your liver is already dumping sugar would not necessarily break the fast and would not cause an unnecessarily larger insulin release. Drinking coffee all morning long to stave off hunger though will keep the system loaded with insulin.

Hopefully someone can provide some clarity, bc it sounds like I've been sabotaging myself thinking it was ok to drink coffee all morning.

Everything I've read said coffee, water, and tea (green?) Are ok to drink.

I’m with you black. Water, tea, and coffee are fine with zero additions.

Started back on IF at the beginning of March using a 16:8 regimen, and wasn't making any progress. My goal was to reduce the amount of insulin in my bloodstream to help me lose body fat. At the time I was having terrible allergies from pollen so i was taking antihistamines every night to help me get a good night's sleep. I was also drinking 5-6 cups of black coffee everyday to stave off the hunger. At the end of March I found out that both coffee (caffeine) and antihistamines cause problems with either insulin secretion or insulin sensitivity, so I dropped both. I have also changed two days during the week to 24 hour fasting days. Since the last week of March I've dropped 12.5 pounds

I finally got my prescription for ADHD two Thursdays ago. Vyvanse 50mg extended release. I have lost 7 pounds or so since then. I was already fasting, but this made it so much easier. That, with my routine of walking 2-3 times a day, is really doing the trick for me.

Macro Calculator

I used this calculator to find my macros. It spit out 1,300 calories with a 87g, 65g, 1something g, split on carbs/fats/proteins.

Does that seem low? Office job, doing IF to lose weight and then maintain.

Just seems a bit aggressive to me
