Also, strength is not only about the need to lift heavy shite, though that's a good thing to be able to do. Being stronger makes you healthier and more useful in general. I weigh 200lbs. What if a guy who weighs 250 comes at me? Am I better or worse off if I can lift more than 225lbs?

I mean you'll be better off, but spending loads of free time in the gym for the once in a lifetime moment a 250 lb guy wants to kick your arse for no reason isn't really worth the time

I think it's perfectly acceptable to justify wanting to lift so you look more attractive, or just because you like doing it, without needing a practical reason

You turds are completely missing the point. The guy I replied to posed a hypothetical: "when would you need to lift more than 225 lbs?"

My point is that getting stronger will carry over to more than just picking up heavy shite.

If 225 is what your goal is, great. I hope you reach it. But its silly to think that pushing your maxes will only make you good at lifting. Or that there's a certain amount of weight that should be good enough because when will you ever have to lift more than that weight in real life?

Not enough. Not nearly enough.

That's not silly at all.

Like Mark Bell says strength is never a weakness, at 36 I'm the strongest I've ever been. The older I get the more careful I am with form and pay more attention to my body but I see no reason why I can't continue to get stronger. I like walking into a room and more times than not being the strongest person there.

I'm sorry but I'll go ahead and say it to those arguing 225 on deadlift is plenty strong enough....sorry but if you can only deadlift 225, you are weak unless you weigh below 150. Sorry but most untrained adults can come close to that and honestly most 15 year old freshman in your local high school football team will be able to do more than that by the end of the first year training.

If you said squating 225 and working up to dozens of reps was enough, I would agree. If you said bench 225 was enough I would agree, if you even said overhead pressing 135 and working up in reps was enough, I would agree, but sorry 225 on deadlift doesn't make you strong enough, it makes you fricking weak.

there was a workout in the Crossfit Open in 2016.... 55 deadlifts @ 225 started the workout... most finished it within 2-3 minutes. .... It really is a pretty modest weight

I need to mix up my workout. I'm always too gassed / tired to do deadlifts after my normal leg workout. Should probably do them after cleans on Friday.

And I never bench. I have no idea what my max is.

Try them on back day

That's what I was thinking. I normally start with cleans on back day (Friday). Probably start going right into deadlifts.

What routine are you on that none of these lifts are currently incorporated?

Yes! And thanks to some CF channels on YouTube, I have found a lot of stuff to add into my routine.

There's this one channel, some CF gym in San Diego....they have so much cool stuff.
