Just sat down and I'm trying to think how I should adjust my diet for the rest of the day. I already know I'm not gonna eat the bread but I'll probably still eat the fries. How many calories do you think this will be? For reference I try to stay below 2400 daily calories

Bullet points re: why you should seldom eat Cane's:

-They use a mix of canola and soybean oil:
Soybean oil is no bueno--it is about 60% polyunsaturated fat and within that PUFA, it has an 8:1 omega 6 to omega 3 ratio (I'll post more on why this is bad later--look it up for now). Has trace amt of trans fat but not really enough to worry about.
Canola is better at only about 28% PUFA and a roughly 2:1 O6:O3 (also a small trans fat content).

So, the oil isn't great and definitely isn't giving you a leg up on much-needed Omega 3s to balance out inflammatory Omega 6 excesses.

The reduced-size fingers themselves aren't great at 4 grams of carbs (the batter of course) EACH. That plus the shitty oil they're cooked in = no go. But not the worst thing on the menu.

The slaw obviously has added sugar (8g--that ain't the cabbage etc) and more not-so-good fats (crappy mayo). 8g net of carb (all sugar) for coleslaw? nah. not worth it.

Beyond all that, it's all truly awful. The sauce is VERY sugary. The toast is very carby (sugary) white bread crap. the only good thing would be if the butter were real--it ISN'T (look at the low saturated fat content--it's margarine--more shitty oils)

The french fries will make you F A T, at a whopping 38 NET carbs (i.e., after fiber deducted--this is SUGAR even though it doesn't list it as sugar because it's a starch--it is basically sugar in the end--87 glycemic index!).

That is more carbs than I have in a day. Unless you plan on doing some serious exercise, that is a killer. Oh and the oil they're cooked in--see above. No.

The only other thing on the menu that is healthy is the unsweetened tea.

And it's a mystery why we are fat.

eta: lol at the lone voter on this post--would you care to rebut ANYTHING I said in this post? It's not like a stated a bunch of opinions.

Just don’t eat it all the time. Live a moderate lifestyle. It’s no secret that eating chicken tenders, fries, toast and cole slaw is bad for you.

There are no bad foods, just bad diets. I just ended a 4 month cut. I fit Cane's several times. You just have to watch what you eat the rest of the day.

Hmmm. I don't think Cane's has any redeeming nutritional qualities

Which is why you shouldn't eat it all the time.

I didn't forget it. Recent studies suggest that for MOST people the link between hypertension and sodium intake is negligble at most.

Also, there is my human guinea pig experience: I had a blood test every other week from Nov 2016 to July 2017, and my blood sodium levels were always on the low side of normal. I eat a LOT of salt. Fwiw.

Obviously eating the occasional crap is not a biggie. And to each his own. But I'd rather save it for good meals out and beer. Especially beer.

People on here know this, for a majority of the population who doesn't understand how calories work eating Cane's multiple times per week adds up.

A rep brought canes yesterday and I only ate two tenders and was very proud of myself. At least it has some protein value. Everyone in the office was crushing the slaw, bread and fries. But I couldn't justify a cheat meal on a Tuesday afternoon.

Sure. But the secret I've learned that is finally working for me is to never say you can't have certain foods. Eat in such a way that allows you to have those treats every once in a while. For me I have found there is a danger in both being too lax and being to restrictive.

I save my Cane's and CFA cravings for road trips.

Mexican is my persistent temptation. I can eat two full baskets of chips both before and after my meal.

Here's the sodium study I ref: LINK

There is no shortage of info on Omega 3s' (and ratio w Omega 6) importance. So much of the SAD is super high in PUFA and within that PUFA, super high in 6 and low in 3.

Some estimates say Americans are averaging around a 16:1 (and some say as high as 20:1) Omega 6:3 intake. This is incredibly dangerous. That's why I preach about these crap oils restaurants use.

Here's a recent abstract on omegas LINK
