I’m about to start working in town for the first time in 10yrs. I just took a new position locally and will not be traveling.

So help me round out my home gym.

I have a
Rack
Nice Vulcan Bar
Rogue rackable curl bar
Weights to probably 500#
Nice Bench
Power Blocks to 125#
A wall mounted cable
Treadmill
Bike
Large wood plyo box

Need?

I feel like I need something for legs (hurt my back a while back and cannot do heavy squats)

Sand bags?

Battle Ropes?

Land mine attachment? Do I need this? I usually do barbell rows or dumbbell rows

Something for farmer walks? I feel like I can use my dumbbells

I'd add a set of good resistance bands if you don't already have some. And while not weight related, a good fan

Bulgarian Split Squats
RDLs
Etc.

I don’t think you need a leg machine unless you want one.

Get a sled

Land mine attachment?

I use mine a lot but I don't have heavy dumbbells so I use it for bent over rows single arm shoulder press and lunges.

My sled is shaped so that I can stand in the middle of it and use it like a trap bar for farmers walks

so far i agree that is the way. maybe the peppin dbs over the powerblocks. i have powerblocks and love them but you cant really do goblet squats and you cant really do pullovers or tricep ext.

order the rack, bars and bench together to save on shipping. for rack, get 3x3 for sure in either 5/8 or 1". 1" will give you a lot more attachments

everything else looks good

i suggest a ghd or reverse hyper to help the back and help build the hamstrings. for legs just focus on single leg variations and db squats, rdl

quote:

Sand bags?

i do suggest these. a 50/75/100/150 is what most people will use. great for everythign

quote:

Battle Ropes?

waste of time and money imo. have them and i ended up putting a clip on mine to use as climbing rope and sled pulls. works great for that and i would suggest you just get a climbing rope

quote:

i would get one, offers variety. works good for squats too since you have bad back

correct use DBs. if you start needing more weight at some point in the future, you can buy handles then

as far as what else, i suggest following that are missing from your list

1) gymnastic rings, adds tons of variety
2) sled, again adds tons of variety, especially if combined with rope and or rings
3) weighted vest, i suggest adjustbale up to 80 lbs, works great with the rings or just to do like Jim Wendlers Walrus method
4) jump rope
5) bands- tons of variety with these. i suggest elitefts, westside or rogue. dont go cheap unless you like being popped with a big arse rubber band.

as far as the treadmill......any reason why? for most people they end up being a waste of money. for most a rower would be better

for the cable machine...make sure you can actually do pulldowns and low rows. surplus strength makes great rack attachments for this.

for curl bar...rep stainless rackable would be my suggestion if looking to save a little

for bar- texas power or rogue or elitefts are best imo in the mid teir range.

for weights- look at rep equalizer or rogue deep dish boneyard. get 1 set of 45 bumpers too.

if you live near houston look into getting weights from troy barbell and other items from getrxd

for bike, rogue makes the best

companies to look at

rogue, elitefts, sorinex, willaims strength, rep, getrxd, titan, fringe

things to look at later...Kettlebells, med balls, attachments.

Things that stick out to me for you that are relatively inexpensive:

Rings
Matador attachment (dip bars)

Other stuff I have that I like a lot, but is more specialty in nature (also expensive):

Kabuki Trap Bar (this is very versatile and would help with the farmer walks you mentioned)
Kabuki Duffalo Bar
Kabuki Transformer Bar

Things I want:

Belt squat attachment (would help your back issue for squats)
Cable attachments
Landmine attachments

ETA: read 7’s post after. I’d 2nd his rec of the sled and weighted vest. Love mine.

yea i forgot about the dip attachment & trap bar. both are awesome

and yea i want to change my suggestion for legs

1) get the foldable reverse hyper
2) get a squatmax md

or get/build 2 small boxes, get an olympic weight loading pin and a belt squat belt.

i 2nd all of the above for specialty stuff. if you want to go cheaper on the duf bar, the longhorn bar from fringe is very good. also for ssb bar, can do the titan v2 bar or catch the elitefts ssb on sale.

one other thing...the henny attachment adds lots of options too. look at everything that can be done easily with it LINK

can reaplce the reverse hyper too

Three inexpensive rack attachments/accessories I use a lot are:

Dip bar
Padded roller for split squats
(Both are much nicer than the bench)
Hanging abs straps (for doing leg lifts from rack for abs)

Also, I recently got a plate loaded cable tower (bells of steel but Titan makes one too) and having the ability to move the contact point anywhere vertically is awesome for cable work. You can do standing leg extensions/leg curls, lat/rear lat raises, standing concentration curls, cross body triceps extensions, etc so much better when you can get the angles exactly right.

//edit: if you get powerblocks and can’t easily do goblet squats, then a Landmine accessory for your rack is a cheap way to be able to overload the same motion (Landmine squats and goblets are pretty similar and if you have lower back issues probably the best way to reintroduce squats). I also like Meadows rows with Landmine more than db rows. Finally, if you do have a couple boxes/plate pin for a belt squat like lsu777 suggested, you can probably use those boxes and the Landmine to do tbar rows with full RoM too.

Information overload!

I’m going to look at this on my computer in a bit trying to read it in my phone is too much!

Land mine attachment
Sand bags
That henny attachment looks interesting
Sled (will need suggestions on this) there’s a huge range on these

I’ll have to look at the other leg stuff on my computer too

I have a dip attachment for my rack I just never use it bc I am usually doing fill in workouts at home not my main workouts but will need to start

I actually need a recommendation on an adjustable bench. My current one is cheap and only has 3 settings...flat, 45 degree, and 90 degree. Anything that is somewhat reasonable?

in dallas area, check facebook market place

getrxd is in houston so unless you are driving there, better to just buy from rep

rep fitness has free shipping and has quite a few to choose from. 4100 would be my choice for mid tier, the 5200 for top tier along with the rogue ab3.0

I have the REP 5100. It's solid and very adjustable. If you buy the leg roller attachment it can do extreme decline too.

FTR, dont sleep on the henny attachment

can do a shite load with it, but it does allow you to really get variety in the lower body, especially with some chain and a little creativity.

pendulum squat, hack squats,, leg curl, leg ext, better belt squat than anything outside of the squatmaxmd(same creator), reverse hypers, hip flexor work, glute kick backs, hip adductor/abductor, sissy squats(especially if you get the belt squat belt)

it will be my next purchase

if you have a football player....shite is perfect for that, can really focus on how to come off the ball and drive with full explosion.

check out the instagram for sure

You have my wheels turning over the belt squats.

The cheapest attachment I can find is about $220

I’m trying to figure out if I can build a platform to straddle my bench and plyo box where I can use a weight pin and and belt

Or piece together my own lever type belt squat machine

I just use a pin and belt and stand on two plyo boxes and have the bar set on the front of the cage at a height I can use to balance myself if need be.
