Hip pain from running

Developed this recently. Possibly bursitis. Everyone says rest it so I do and then as soon as I run again it flares up. Recently lost a bunch of weight and it never bothered me when I was heavy but I almost cannot run now. Does not hurt to walk or do anything else and only in 1 hip. Who do I see about this?

Stop running. Seriously, its a ton of impact and wear and tear on your body, and there are a lot of more effective ways to get into shape without hurting yourself.

Where exactly? Side or buttocks?
And Georgia there’s nothing wrong with running.

Unless it hurts.

Training to return to triathlon. It's not just about losing weight and getting back in shape.

Pain is directly on front of ball and socket. I think its either worn cartilage or bursitis.

sounds like hip flexor. Probably from overuse. Do you stretch at all?
if not, look these up. They will help tremendously
-Couch stretch
-Pigeon stretch
- superman stretch
-bottom of squat hold.
accumulate 2 mins each side, or until you feel loose

I’d go with Lester. If no relief I’d go see an Ortho.
NM saw it’s unilateral

I started having some hip soreness in my mid-30s that would sometimes get worse after playing basketball. I googled some hip stretches and it got much better after about a month. Now, I try to make sure and spend 20 minutes or so on stretches specifically for the hips at least 3x/week. Fortunately haven't had any issues in the past few years since doing the stretching.

having loose, functional hips can prevent so many aches and injuries. It's amazing

Tell me a bit about your running form.
Do you heel strike? Hip shuffle?
The reason I ask I find so many people overstride and hip shuffle (instead of landing with a bent knee and using their hamstrings); this places an undue burden on the hips.
For stretches, I really recommend ROMWOD for this, especially if you're not opposed to $14 a month.

Go see an sports medicine ortho. Find out what’s causing your pain before trying to push through it.
Any hip pain on the bike or in the pool?

You need to have a lot of pre running and post running stretching routines.
Don't forget the post stretching. I think that goes unsung and is quite important in preventing ailments such as hip pain.

Actually had PTs and Chiro's state they aren't that worried about stretching before. More worried about warm up and post stretching. At least for my issues.

Probably bursitis and my guess is your hips are rotated out of alignment.

Stop running long distance
Work on hip stability and mobility
Gradually start off with sprints or some form of intervals

I am a runner and I had bursitis even before I was a runner --- ortho lold at me so I (I know) went to a chiro. What he did helped but then I went to PT. He said I had had little to no hip strength per his test AND I was right in the rear. Went to therapy for a little bit and he worked out the tightness and helped with strengthening. I swear it was SO ENJOYABLE to run again
Biggest things that can help and are so easily done are clam shells and side lying straight leg raises. Google them!
Edited: PT and chiro both told me "it all starts at the hips". Even knee and foot pain at times can be traced back to hip issues.
