Help my son gain weight

Surely someone in your family can cook a rice and gravy

On a serious note, when my son was trying to pack on weight for football, he ate a lot of peanut butter sandwiches and a big bowl of ice cream every night before bed. Plus all the normal meals that we would cook throughout the week.

Like I said, it was for football and he played on the line so he needed to put on the pounds. He ate like that and his team has (what I believe) is one of the best strength workout programs in the state so he never really got fat.

Anyway, as soon as that was over he lost over 40 pounds in 6 months and is back to normal.

You sound like such a moron talking about my “physique” on Tigerdroppings when that isn’t even the point of this thread. That’s how I ate as a teen too and it made me feel like dog shite and made me physically and mentally unhealthy until I switched to a better diet and felt great with no noticeable negative effects on my body.

The kid is trying to gain weight and you’re telling him to eat jasmine rice and chicken 5x a day, you’re an idiot

It’s not idiotic. Jasmine rice is very easy to make, either in bulk or microwave pouches, reheats well and taste wel. It digest well and is a great carb sourc

Chicken thighs and breast are high quality meats that should be a staple diet

Mix in some ground beef in place of the chicken or some lean pork or some shrimp and you have great easy meals especially if you combine some trinity in there and seasonings and a little blessing from the pope.

Eggs for breakfast with some meat in a burrito, some steak for dinner and lots of high quality milk and protein powder.

Throw in some fruit and veggies here and there and you have the basic template of a great healthy diet that can be maintained for life. You can sub the rice out for potatoes, quinoa and sweet potatoes but white rice is the base

Want to gain weight, see my thread on the board

Proceeds to change basically everything about the diet he posted from a macro standpoint. Telling a kid to eat nothing but chicken, rice, and protein shakes is objectively bad advice. I get that you’re autistic about working out and you’ve crowned yourself the resident board expert because you type out 7,000 word essays on a regular basis but nothing you post is sustainable for the average person and there’s a lot of bro science bullshite thrown in there as well.

His dad is asking how to gain weight and y’all are in here telling him that he has to meal prep every meal he eats at 17 years old which is a gigantic waste of time and borderline impossible. There’s a happy medium between being cripplingly OCD and not doing anything at all

lol yea that’s it’s…I’m autistic about working out…the whole 3 times a week I get to.

And yea meal prepping is unrealistic, yet I do it for my three sons every morning

Much better that he eats a bunch of of candy bars and an out meal pie for breakfast…that’s the way to go

How hard is it to have to cook big ole batch of eggs, big batch of chicken thighs and a bunch of ground beef and combining with microwavable rice

Combine the eggs and some beef with cheese and make a burrito for breakfast, takes less than 10 min( I do it daily for my 3 sons)

Cook pack of rice and combine with ground beef and put in thermos…takes 5 min(I do it daily for my sons)

When they get home from school they make them some chicken and put in a tortilla with some buffalo sauce or heat up some with some rice or beef with sauce on bread

He’ll buy damn rotisserie chicken

But don’t act like suggesting a guy feed his kid real food is unrealistic. It’s fricking not. I know, I’m around high school kids all day after work and know the ones that have parents that care and the ones that care enough themselves vs idiot parents like you who act like that’s too hard or a 17 year can’t learn to cook.

frick off with your insults, take your fat arse back to the ot

shite, now I feel bad for letting mine eat the school lunch. Seriously though, I don’t prep eggs, but I start our eggs at 5:35 and we are eating and finished by 5:50.

I’ll be glad when football is over for the younger kids, eating at 8 is what’s getting old

Yea the sports can do that. I only have middle kid left in football for the year, got playoffs next week and then done. But basketball starts on December for youngest and two weeks for oldest

I will say, the Jimmie dean meat lovers cup work well if in a hurry along with the meat lovers crumble. Add an extra egg to the cup and little more meat and throw on burrito if in a hurry and didn’t get to prep. Takes 5 min.

The rotisserie chicken and the uncle Ben microwave jasmine rice is life savers too.

Add some milk or protein shakes and food is covered until after school. I let them kind of make their own stuff after school. 7 year old heads for the chicken tenders of course but the 11&12 usually make leftovers or grill a hamburger if they have time. Then I usually have dinner prepped when possible. Try to do Sundays and Wednesday. The rotisserie chicken enchiladas from Sam’s are always on hand as a just in case thing.

That’s not nearly enough fat for a 17 year old to be healthy,

He said 2 whole eggs, 20g of peanut butter, steak and ground beef. Assuming a 14 oz steak and 8 oz of 80/20 ground beef youre already around 130g of fat. How much more do you think a kid needs? Seems pretty reasonable to me

Quit having him eat a bunch of Processed foods. He's spiking his insulin first thing in morning eating that crap for one. Secondly, there no reason to eat a bunch of 'ice cream' or 'peanut butter' etc. most of these are loaded with seed oils, emulsifiers, and a bunch of other fake crap.

Have him eat grass fed/finished ground beef. Bacon. Eggs. Steak. Little bit of chicken thrown in. Get a grass fed Whey Isolate and mix it with 8oz - 12oz of Half and Half and 6oz water. Have him eat 3 meals and 3 shakes a day. That's going to be a ton of protein, fats, that are full of vitamins like iron, b12, b3, b6, and zinc all stuff that healthy growing kids need. You aren't going to get any of that from fricking peanut butter and ice cream.

People are going to down vote this but if you want to be a lethargic unhealthy fat frick who is constantly spiking insulin levels all day listen to the morons telling him to pound ice cream, peanut butter and bread. Its stupid and not needed. There are much more healthy and nutritious calorie dense ways to do this without eating a bunch of processed stuff. Just putting 'weight' on a teenager is pointless. You want it to be good weight. There isn't a worse place for a teenager to put weight than the stomach if he is an athlete. Could go on and on about this but there is no point people are just going to talk about 'calories' and ignore the quality part of it and think downing a pint of ice cream is just as good as a shake made with 12 oz of half and half with 50 grams of whey isolate thrown in.

This is where myself and OP disagree. Even if he gets fat instead of muscle at least he won’t be so small and get leveled by the jocks on the football field. Also when the bullies see he got bigger and fatter they won’t mess with him. He can then turn the fat into muscle if he wants later or if being fatter is enough for him to accomplish his goals the.ln that’s fine to.

Oh just turn fat into muscle. So simple why haven't millions of fat people just do that.

IF you want to add muscle work towards that. If you want to be fat that's much easier, work towards that. Don't fatten up with the goal of later shedding the fat and muscling up. You've just tripled your work and lets be honest most people never get the fat back off.

Curious if there are any studies about being overweight at this age with the growth plates not fused yet. Is any of this thinking detrimental long term?

People will down vote you just like they did me and others because what you proposed takes a little work and can’t be just taken out the wrapper….i was told earlier in the thread that …….its unrealistic to eat real food
