I started trail running (with zero-drop shoes) a few weeks ago. It's a blast. However, I've recently developed some foot pain in my left foot. It hurts where my left "ring" toe (is that what you call it?) meets the arch.

There is no pain while resting or anything like that. It only hurts when I put pressure on it. It has prevented me from running the last several days. Any idea on what sort of injury it could be?

I have a similar injury that hurts only while barefoot. Same spot. I have no idea and i haven't gotten it checked because its nothing major.

best of luck.

These kind of nagging injuries are the worst

I get achilles pain in my left foot about a mile in that makes jogging almost unbearable. It's so frustrating knowing cardio-wise you can go much longer but just a small part of your body is telling you NOPE

Like me, you might be having some form of tendon issue especially if you just started trail running, but i suppose it could possibly be a small stress fracture. certain muscles and tendons may not be use to activating and may be inflammed initally due to overcompensation.

Maybe treat it how you would treat tendonitis...Your tendon and muscles may adapt and strengthen in a couple weeks

If it is a stress fracture you may need to consider a cardio workout that is less impactful on the foot until your bone can heal itself

Does it feel like a pebble? Could be a Morton's neuroma.

It's more towards my heel. I have no earthly idea what this chart means, but the pain is around numbers 19 and 23.

Most likely plantar fasciitis. If you have a tight Achilles zero drop shoes may not be the best thing for your feet. The Achilles tendon and plantar fascia meet on the back/bottom of your heel bone. If there is too much tension on the Achilles it will overly stress the fascia and lead to inflammation.

Yep..

Plantar Fasciitis. It’ll be with you a while. You can get inserts to help with it but it’ll hurt a while.

Agree it sounds like PF. Stop running for now, stretch Achilles and massage PF with a tennis ball or raquet ball. Might want to get fitted for better shoes or inserts.

A froze a tin can of diced potatoes and I would roll my foot with it every night.

I would rest a few weeks. If you can bike or swim then do that.

I used the zero-drop shoes and it took my feet a year to heal. There is a reason the flat foot running shoes are harder and harder to find, it was a fad.

Sounds like bursitis or capulitis. Probably just RICE and it will go away.

Does it feel like a little pebbles is in your shoe or like your sock bunched up?

I don't think that's true at all. Tons of trail runners use zero-drop shoes. All of the major running shoe companies make a zero-drop model.

Not really. It feels good after not running for a week. I may try to get back after it this week.
