I’ve been overweight for most my life (I love to eat good food) I’m 5’10” 230 now. I’m down from 260 a year ago, but Ive been lifting weights 3-4 times/week and I have gotten significantly stronger. I do construction QA so I’m on my feet all day and don’t do as much cardio as I should. I don’t look “fat” just dadbod + bigger guy. I do have a slight “muffin top” (yea, I know) from tons of previous beer drinking. What tips do y’all have for lunches I can pre make that don’t need microwaves and can be eaten on barges/trucks/etc.. I focus mostly on back/shoulders/chest/legs. Thanks

You want to set yourself up for success first and foremost so do a quick 72 hour water fast. After that is complete utilize a fasting focused ketogenic WOE. Stop making excuses and get healthy.

Well the renewed weight lifting with the former marine trainer was me setting myself up. He tells me every time my diet is “weak, nasty and undisciplined” and I’m wasting my money. But I have lost pant sizes. No excuses (maybe) but this last year my wife was pregnant and our son was born 3 months ago, so now I can cook what I want

Okay so more excuses. Stop making excuses for being FAT. I have 4 kids and I don’t use them or my wife’s pregnancies as an excuse. I don’t care if you have a MARSOC trainer doesn’t matter unless you get your diet squared away.

If you want a less drastic approach than keto stuff, a guaranteed winner is simply decreasing total calories.

What sort of things do you eat now? Most people have success by mimicking the stuff they like with simple changes to cut calories, sugar and excess fat.

My problem is I’ve never been able to eat breakfast, so I be gotten myself to do a protein shake in the morning. Then my boss buys me lunch 3 days a week so I have 0 self control to not order something great (I live in Nola) and I go home and my wife is addicted to sugar and everything she couldn’t eat while pregnant...

I know I’m fat, but 72 hours of water only while working outside isn’t really an option.

You don’t need to eat breakfast. In fact don’t eat for 72 hours and you will feel great. Look into intermittent fasting it will enhance your goals of getting healthy.

It actual is an option. You are brainwashed to think you will die or pass out, etc if you don’t eat. That’s simply not true.

I've dropped over 40 pounds since February by avoiding simple carbs and eating right such as at any meal eating no more food than the size of my fist and not letting myself get too hungry while eating a healthy balanced diet. Naturally in doing this I've been eating more meat and fresh vegetables. No bread or starches. As for lunch I've been eating essentially what is a delicious poboy but instead of bread I use two big romaine lettuce leaves. It is quite delicious.
If you want it you can figure it out for yourself using those guidelines.
I've got less than 20 pounds to hit my target weight so I'm transitioning to a full-on keto diet at this time.
Football games and tailgating will be a challenge I'll have to meet.
Regarding "working out" I don't recommend it while you're losing weight. Just focus on diet and moderate physical activity. Working your body too hard stresses your system and your body tends to hang onto its fat reserves under stress. The idea is to de-stress your body and it will more easily shed the fat. Most of the work is done in the kitchen.
These are just my opinions from many years experience and research.

Use that to your advantage for 16-8 fasting. And ignore bad advice about "trying to limit calories"

Lunch:
--Fatty cheeses (TJs triple cream brie is 4:3 fat to protein)
--Salami (TJ and WM have good uncured)
--TJs has good low carb flaxy crackers that go great w the above
--Avocado/guac w pork rinds (good ones--no junk)
--whisps with almond butter and a few blueberries are awesome snack
--sardines in olive oil w avocado mayo on the above crackers + pickles
--use MCT oil for ez energy
--I can share some recipes for high fat low carb awesome stuff like sausage cheese balls and peanut butter-powder and cacao shake
--cacao nibs
--make your own French onion dip
--Avocado hummus w cukes/celery or wisps or rinds
--I make salmon salad out of leftover salmon
--get an air fryer and an instapot. So many things you can prepare ahead of time for good lunch. IP is best way to boil EGGS so they peel super ez. That should be a staple
--wings (air fryer + Costco)
--full fat yogurt w nuts and berries
--macadamia and pecans, and some almonds w 90% dark chocolate
--spinach salad w bacon, bleu cheese, olive oil, whatever veg, good bleu cheese (bolthouse makes one--avoid shite oil), broccoli sprouts, leftover ribeye (if there ever is any)
--crispy chicken thighs (air fryer--great leftover cold too)
--grass-fed ground beef: I do all sorts of stuff from Mexican to Italian to asian, and use cauliflower rice, spaghetti squash for noodles, miracle rice or noodles, taco salads w full far sour cream and avocado, etc
--pork chops
--olives
--kimchi, sauerkraut
--drench everything in gf butter and other good fats
--eat salt (make a bone broth w spices and fat)

The mainstream eats so shitty and falls for terrible nutrition advice that it SEEMS hard to break out of it. It really isn't if you mostly prepare your own food.

And this is meh:
quote:

Limit your portions.
Quit eating late in the evening

Not because it's wrong, but because it's mostly useless advice for someone trying to lose serious fat. If you eat the sort of lunch (to break your fast) I laid out, to satiety, and eat a good fatty dinner within 8 hours, you WILL lose the fat, without thinking about anything else.
I do agree that circadian timing is important. I like to get all my calories between about noon and 6pm.

He's making excuses, but youre being a dick FWIW. A 72 hour fast is pretty unrealistic for someone that has no experience even eating nonshit. He's not going to do it, and I don't blame him, so you're just wasting your time repeating yourself.

Lol. And I agree. My advice is to eat your face off but only good stuff, to start. Show your body and brain you aren't going to starve without sugar.

A 3 day fast might be a bit much to get into right away working in the heat though
