Has anyone ever completed a 'destination' half? I currently live in OH and was thinking about doing one local and one 'destination' this year.

Las Vegas. Running the strip at night was pretty cool

it's the only time a year they shut down the strip aside from New Year's I believe

The Vegas run used to be right around Thanksgiving .. this year I think it was a few weeks ago (friend ran it and posted pics).

Seaside Half Marathon used to be a thing .. not sure if it's still going.

Another friend just ran a half at Antelope Canyon and made a whole vacation out of it.

There are also some in Cali but you'd just have to search for those .. friends loved them.

Oh and I have friends who ran a half in Cape Cod .. want to say that was over Labor Day maybe but again, that was pre-covid and not sure if it's still around.

Seaside ran a few weeks back. Good race if you don't mind shelling out $$$.

Louisville Kentucky Derby half marathon April 30th.

Depending on where you are in OH it wouldn’t be that far of a drive

Vacation Races

I haven’t done these, but based off their registration numbers, I’d say they are well organized. I really want to do the Grand Teton race.

I also want to run the half marathon that Salt Lake City hosts every year. The course is designed so that the half is basically all down hill.

ETA: here’s the course map. 5 ft of gain. Map

St jude in Memphis. Nothing can compare to running through the st jude campus with hundreds of patients, families, and staff cheering you on.

St Jude is great. We’re registered for year nine this year. Didn’t include it as Memphis is meh. But the race is great!,

The route has improved the past couple of years as they have tried to keep the half running on riverside and the nicer areas of downtown

Was that down Beale? I miss those days too. But I like the riverside run better

Yes. But I know there were years when we ran by the river after Beale — in the opposite direction that it is now. Also we used to finish IN Autozone Park — like on the field.

Used to run through the tunnel and there was always a drum line under the tunnel .. we’d hang a right and there were Scottish bagpipes and then up a freaking hill.

Either way, I’m slow as molasses and just want the St Jude experience. This year will be #9 for me.

Yea, finishing in autozone was pretty cool. I’m usually right around 2 hours. I’ve done it 5 times now

What kind of races do you like?

If you want an off the beaten path, run Tushars in Utah. It will absolutely destroy you, but is a great experience. Small race & you can plan it around seeing national parks in southern Utah. Warning: it’s a hard race. You may want to get some hill training in
