Decent price for a triathlon bike

I am considering doing a half ironman next year, and starting to plan my training. I do not have a bike, and was looking for recs on a decently price bike? I have been checking Craigslist, as well as a local bike shop for a used bike, but nothing has come up so far.

What is your budget? This can go from $500 to $10,000...
Keep looking on FB Marketplace, expand the parameter, this is the time that people sell.
I got a full carbon road bike for my wife for a steal price, I just had to drive 13 hours round trip for it.
Are you looking for a true TT bike? Do you know what size you need?

I am hoping to be closer to 500. I am leaning towards a road bike and adding aero bars because I don't know if I will be doing any other triathlons.
I'm not on Facebook, do you have to be to look at the marketplace?

Craigslist, local tri club will have someone who started with a cheap bike and has now upgraded

I believe you do need a Facebook account to view Facebook Marketplace, as much as I hate Facebook they've really killed it with the Marketplace deal since so many people are on it. They've seriously hurt craigslist and other buy/sell avenues.
Deals are out there, you just have to be patient, know your size and be prepared to jump and be prepared to travel if needed, when you see one. My wife is getting into tris and we were looking for a road bike that would fit her, she's short, and ended up finding an aluminum frame Cervelo P2 in her size for $500 which was better than I was finding used road bikes in her size locally.
Just quickly browsing it looks like there's several road bikes in your price range not far from you on Facebook, even looks like there's a few carbon tri bikes in the $600-$1000 range too.

I never did tri, but I used to ride between 2K - 3K miles a year. If you're only doing on triathlon, this will be a much more affordable and comfortable way to go. A road bike allows for a more vertical riding position. While you'll sacrifice a little in the aero department, you'll make up for it in comfort. If you're comfortable, you'll ride more.
Just my $0.02.

Agree with this. Have both and hardly use the tri bike. Check bike stores and let them know you are interested in case someone is wanting to trade for an upgrade.

I’d honestly look for nice, higher end pre-owned tri bike that checks out on eBay. That’s where I started. If you can find one that already has a power meter in it even better. You should be able to find a legit one in the $1000-$1500 range. Make sure it fits right though. A lot of people buy a bike on Craigslist or even eBay and have no idea that the bike is big or small for them.

Buy a good used road bike.. you’ll have to spend closer $1500 to get something nice.
Biggest upgrade will be the wheels, you’ll definitely want carbon.. you could probably find full carbon road bike for $1500. Find your size first and get someone to constantly check FB Market Place. Also check FB for pages that specialize in selling used bikes.
