Not sure if anyone else has followed Goggins but he started the Moab 240 mile race, ran off course for 7 miles, realized he was off course, ran another 7 mile back to the course, gets pulmonary edema at mile 200 and is medically pulled from the race.

So the bro goes to the hospital to get fixed up. As soon as he’s discharged, his arse gets back to running and finishing the race (even though it’s over).

This summabitch is hardcore.

Goggins is a beast, no doubt.

Ran the Moab 240 last year with a time of around 58 hours and finished 10 hours ahead of 2nd place on a total of 20 minutes of sleep.

I don't understand how he got pulmonary edema. Isn't that usually associated with extreme altitudes?

I couldn’t tell you the science behind it, but I know altitude effects everyone differently. Looks like he got medical treatment when they were about 10k ft in elevation which certainly isn’t “extreme” but was diagnosed with HAPE (high altitude pulmonary edema).

You mean Courtney Dawaulter? Who just might be the greatest female ultra runner ever? Not really a fair comparison.

Goggins is a monster, no doubt, but he isn’t an elite ultra runner. Dude just works hard and doesn’t quit.

I agree with this. Goggins is an athletic mentalist, not a true endurance athlete. He’s something else all together and I mean that with the utmost respect to him.

Courtney is my homegirl.

Yeah my bad I was distracted when I posted but I meant Courtney.

Not fair to compare two participants of the same race? Do a blind test with any 100 people off the street and ask who do you think would win in a 240 mile race through the desert.!

Yea I remember him saying that in his book now that you say that. That would definitely have an effect with altitude then I believe. He also had a pretty big hole in his heart that he got patched up.

Having sickle cell would effect you and can kill you

Having the trait really doesn't but there is a small chance it can be triggered and send you into crisis like you have sickle cell.

I was watching some of the Joe Rogan podcasts, and this crazy motherfricker ran 8 ultramarathons for 8 straight weeks.

Yes, you heard me, 8 100 mile runs 8 straight weekends. What's a good minute mile pace for a 100 mile run? 8? 10? 12?

elite ultra runners are running anywhere from 6:30ish to 8 min miles, just depending on the course/elevation

for normal people, most of us just would just be happy to finish

On many courses, that's actually very good. At Western States that would put you in the top 50 most years.

That would be a fantastic time

A lot of people just try to finish before the cut off times, which are generally anywhere between 30 to 48 hours
