I’m buying Topo Chico by the case

I took a month off of drinking starting on New Year’s Day. I typically drink way too much beer, bourbon, or wine daily, so I badly needed a reset.

I started drinking club soda and lime this month to have something to sip on and mimic a drink. But I didn’t enjoy it much. Around day 10, wife came home with a case of Topo Chico for me to try. It’s so much better. It’s been a godsend for me so far. I plan to continue it several nights a week once January is over.

Good luck to you...

I quit booze for lent each year. Last few years I leaned heavily on La Croix. I'm embarrased to admit the 12 ounce can format satisfied some of my physical habit.
I'm considering this lent trying some concotions that fast/cleansers use. Possibly some fresh lime or lemon, touch of honey, cayenne or tumeric, coconut water. Stuff like that. Not necessarily all in the same drink.

Protip: that stuff can erode your tooth enamel if you drink too much of it.

Is Mio sweet?

I don’t really drink sugary sweet (even sugar substitute) drinks.

That’s why I like Topo Chico.

ETA: just found an online calculator- that’s 4,134 calories per week in alcohol before the cutback - yikes.

Yeah, a pound of fat is 3,500 calories. But even if you have a high tolerance for the amount you said you drink a night, like Hulk mentioned, that’s got to frick your sleep up somewhat. I can’t sleep through the night when I drink. Even if you can, I doubt it’s as restful as it would be without it.

I know starting in my 30s, I couldn’t drink much at all if I were exercising seriously. The really bad hangovers lasted 2 days, so they were wasted. And if I had just drank moderately the night before—enough to mess up my sleep and make me tired the next day—it was harder to muster up the willpower to hit the gym. And even when I did, I usually had shite workouts. I’m sure everybody’s different, but I know for me, I have to cut out all booze when I’m trying to get in shape. Except for occasional cheat day every week or 2.

ETA—what’s Topo Chico? Never heard of it, but am intrigued. Same with that no-calorie ginger beer.

Get you some marijuana, baw. Particularly something on the sativa side if you want a happy and energized buzz. Zero calories and zero hangover. Highs are much more euphoric and lasting intoxication than alcohol.

My sleep wasn't an issue. I sleep like a bear for the most part - i wore one of those watches and it said i was in deep sleep for most of the night.

I am excited for my next doctor visit when they ask how many drinks a nigh i have that i won't have to lie this time.

Topo Chico is a bottled sparkling mineral water. No sugar and just a bit of lime or ginger (or plain). Maybe it's the bottle that tricks me into thinking it's like drinking a beer that makes it a good replacement but i ain't complaining.

Reed's is keto approved because apparently 90% of the carbs that are in it aren't digested so you just piss them out. NEATO! I actually haven't been able to find it in any of the close by stores. Might have to order it.

Which watch?

I use a Samsung Active 2 and i get like 15-30min of deep sleep, an hour of awake time, and the rest is light sleep.. and that's an average night and after cleaning up my sleep hygiene..

Garmin Forerunner 235

I quit doing it because the light would pop on and wake up my wife.

I do topo Chico like many have said. I went to buy some the other day (wife usually does the grocery shopping) and I had no idea they are like $15 for 12 waters! The Kirkland signature flavored sparkling water from Costco is pretty much the same as la croix to me. It’s like $8 for 35 cans... taste and refreshment wise topo Chico is the best.

All of you Topo Chico lovers... I would really recommend against it.

quote:

A new study from Consumer Reports found that some carbonated water brands have measurable amounts of so-called PFAS chemicals, which are linked to adverse health effects. Researchers examined more than 40 brands of bottled water and found that sparkling water was more likely to include higher levels of the chemicals than still water.

PFAS, which stands for "per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances," are a group of man-made chemicals that have been used since the 1940s in everything from food packaging to stain-resistant fabrics. While they aren't federally regulated in the U.S., the chemicals have been linked to health problems such as low birth weight, cancer and thyroid hormone disruption, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Because the chemicals don't break down easily in the body or the environment, they are sometimes called "forever" chemicals.

The sparkling water brand with the highest level of PFAS detected by Consumer Reports was Coca-Cola's Topo Chico, which is popular in western U.S. cities such as Austin, Texas. It had PFAS levels of 9.76 parts per trillion, the testing found.

Lipton diet green tea. Supposedly green tea is good for weight loss - take that with a grain of salt, but it tastes good and is 0 calories.

Oooffff, another one I would avoid. It taste good because of the artificial sweetener. Which in small doses is fine.. but I would not be drinking this every night.

quote:

Although diet green tea from Lipton is calorie-free, as an artificially-sweetened beverage, it may not make the best choice if you're trying to lose weight. According to a 2010 review study published in the Yale Journal of Biology and Medicine, epidemiological evidence suggests an association between the intake of artificial sweeteners and weight gain. The authors of the study noted that artificial sweeteners increase cravings for sweet food and may lead to poor, higher-calorie food choices. The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics says that artificial sweeteners are OK to include in your diet as long as they are part of an overall healthy diet.
