Cutting way back on alcohol to get healthier in 2021 - struggling a bit with just drinking water when I get home from work because while it is good for you it’s a bit boring to drink.

I’m buying Topo Chico by the case and found a low carb no sugar ginger beer called Reed’s. Anything else in the low carb no sugar category to replace drinking beer/wine at night?

ETA: Top suggestions from the thread

I used to drink 6 cokes a day and never thought I could switch to only water. After a few weeks though I hardly missed the cokes.

Now if I have a coke with a meal I have to drink a glass of water after or I still feel thirsty. I don't know how I used to do it never drinking just plain water.

As a substitute for alcohol though I can see where you need something besides just water.

I would say tea sweetened with stevia, but since it's after work, the caffeine will keep you awake. Try Republic of Tea's Early Grey if you want.

Also, if you want a carbonated drink (sweetened artificially) try A&W zero sugar root beer. However, artificial sweeteners aren't exactly healthy, but better than sugar.

Diet root beer, diet ginger ale, sprite zero all have no caffeine, no calories, and make a nice little treat. Plus Sprite Zero + diet ginger ale both go great with some bourbon if you're so inclined.

My go-to’s are Milo’s Sweet tea with Splenda, Caffeine-Free Coke Zero, Diet Dr. Pepper, Diet Cokes when I need caffeine, and Pepsi Zero Sugar when I need Monster type caffeine.

These sound good. I don’t really like sweet drinks so that’s not a problem.

Is Kombucha worth a damn?

Crystal light drink mix packets. I generally have a pitcher of one of the flavors in my fridge when I want something else besides plain water.

I love kombucha but it was an acquired taste. It also has sugar in it, typically ~1g per ounce, give or take. Sugar is used in the fermentation & 2nd fermentation, not all of it gets eaten.

GT's Gingerade is kind of the de-facto gold standard.

The first kombucha I tried that I actually enjoyed was Healthade pink apple flavor. After that I like just about any kombucha, and even brewed it myself for a while.

same here. Beer when I got home, glass of wine (or two) with dinner, plus a nightcap with the wife once the kids are in bed. That’s pretty much every weeknight and then add day drinking on Saturday/Sunday. Never getting hammered but I needed to switch it up to get in better shape - I’m just putting myself in the hole workout wise if all I’m ever doing is trying to lose the weight caused by the alcohol.

Replaced all of that with 1.5 oz of bourbon after the kids are in bed/hang out w/ the wife. It’s been 2 weeks - going good so far but didn’t want to mess it up out of boredom with the nonalcoholic drinks.

ETA: just found an online calculator- that’s 4,134 calories per week in alcohol before the cutback - yikes.

Lipton diet green tea. Supposedly green tea is good for weight loss - take that with a grain of salt, but it tastes good and is 0 calories.

I'm jealous of y'all and nightcaps. Any alcohol after 7pm and I sleep like complete arse. Not worth it most of the time.

Day drinking it is for me.

I drink a ton of herbal teas. If the label says something like relax or tension tamer or some crap like that I'm all over it.

Topo Chico is the shite. Best thing to drink after a hard workout. Although, I have really cut back on my consumption due to the alleged PFAS contamination in the source water

I’m in a similar situation. Green tea is very good for you. Also like Earl Grey. They both come in decaf.
