That's awesome. I've never done an open workout, but I felt like I could have gamed this one a little differently and done better. My gym "nemesis" got 20 reps more than me on his re-try, but I just don't re-do them.
Highest score I saw posted on here was 301, forgot who it was, but congrats! That's solid.

If you scale to knee ups, are those judged? Is there even a standard?

we have double the members of you guys, there were 6 people finished with a lower score than what you had. Can't beat yourself up, you've only been at it for a short time

Shepherd88 had the 301. Agreed, anything in the 300+ range is damn good. This is my first time doing the open, didn't really start full-time into Crossfit until June of last year. Idk if I'll redo the Open workouts every week, but my strategy was piss poor the first time for 18.1 and I felt I had to redo it to get a better idea on where I'm truly at.
I did get a good

Thanks brotha, I feel like I could have done a little better re-doing it cause 20min amrap is so hard to determine pace in the beginning. But I’m doing this for fun and have no aspirations to compete.
Good luck to everyone else!

You got me by one rep lol. I'll try and get you on 18.2!

Lol I love some competition, I’m expecting some weight to be moved in 18.2 but nothing too difficult yet. The separator wod’s are usually #3 & #4.
I do have a theory that Castro is gaming these wods based on that athlete strengths that is demo’ing the night of. (Briggs has an engine and the past 2 years have been amrap’s for her demo).

Hanging knee raises? Yes. Knees have to get above your waistline.

I'm not really beating myself up over it, just means there's a great chance to improve. I could see giant leaps by next year's open.

I did best in 17.2 and 17.5 last year, top 7% in the world on those two.
The 20 minute grunt work wod is not my cup of tea. I love a fly and die workout or something with high skill like dubs or MU in the 8-12 minute range. I can also move moderately heavy weight repeatedly. I'm much stronger this year, but I'm not in crossfit shape right now. I'm hoping for one of those WODS where you earn more work with increasing clean weight.

Exactly
I was having a conversation during the first 3 roe sessions. I was terrified of redlining like 17.1

watching some of the elites get in the 400s is insane

We do have the two folks with 6 appearances at the games between them.
Hell, there was a 370 and a 362? or so at the same time.
Of all the admirable physical traits they possess, the most impressive thing is for them to block everything and just keep rolling.
Watching what they do to maintain that level of performance is crazy. It is a year round commitment.

You gotta have a border line mental illness obsession to be elite at this game. There are so many sacrifices you have to make to get just 1% better for those guys, yet they don’t see it as sacrifices bc they love it that much. Ben Bergeron’s book “Chasin Excellence” was a really good read that went into this somewhat.
For me, I do this so I can enjoy life more fully and drink beer.

We had a guy go 400+. He’s in or right at the top 100 worldwide
Posted on 2/27/18 at 7:21 pm to Lester Earl
Justin King (made the games last year in M35-39) got 453 on 18.1.
He was pulling 1900 on his last round of row to get back to TTB.
