Ok, for obvious reasons I posted this here and not OT. I’m mid 40s and for over the last couple years when I do #2 there is bright red blood in toilet when I’m done, stool looks normal. Always assumed hemorrhoids but there’s never been any pain. About 6 months ago it started back up and it’s every day. Have a doctor appointment next week. Haven’t been to a doctor in all my adult life. More nervous about doctor than anything else. Is it possible hemorrhoids don’t have pain or high possibility of colon cancer? I know there are doctors that post here, just wondering. No weight loss or abdominal pain, no butt sex. I take a poop, seems normal, look down, and bright blood all in the toilet with regular stool. Made mistake of googling and now got nervous. My appointment is next Thursday.

Eta: Forgot, had to get a Covid test done in 2020, only time I’ve been

I guess, don’t know much about them. I did 23 and me and have markers for celiacs, I still eat wheat some, not sure if that would cause bleeding. Never been actually diagnosed with it though. Just assumed since no pain it wouldn’t be serious, coworker told me probably hemorrhoids but from what I read there’s usually pain or itching.

Internal hemmorhoids or polyp. Internal hemorrhoids aren't always painful. Bright red blood much more likley to be hemorrhoids than cancer. You'll get them banded. It will not be pleasant, but your not going to die.

Don't take your phone out while on the can in the future, eat more fiber, and drink more water.

edit: i see no weight loss, that's a good sign. hopefully no ibd.

Every time I go. If I only go once during day it’s a lot of blood. Days I go twice, second time not near as bad.

That sounds awful.

Don’t take phone out? I do drink mostly water except morning coffee. Probably could use more fiber in diet

This. Happened to me about 15 years ago - started shitting copious amounts of blood. Scared the shite of me and like most men, I ignored it b/c I was too scared to find out the cause (I was convinced I had colon cancer). Anyway, went to see a gastroenterologist who scoped me and diagnosed ulcerative colitis. Fortunately, it has been pretty well maintained since then through medications, but when it flairs up, it can be debilitating.

Get an appointment with a gastro dr. and find out what the cause it. Good luck and god speed.

Sounds like UC. You need to go to a GI. They’re probably gonna wanna give you a colonoscopy.

don't tarry on the pot, reduce strain, clean gently but thoroughly afterwards (you'll find a way). sounds like what i had/have for quite a while. very manageable if it's internal hemorrhoids. when i had my first colonoscopy doc said don't worry about fixing, just manage fwiw

Don’t spend too much time on the toilet and try not straining.

quote:

For every additional minute spent using a smartphone in the lavatory, the likelihood of being in the hemorrhoid group increased by 1.26 times (95% confidence interval =1.162-1.364). Conclusion: Smartphones are now commonly used even in the lavatory, and this habit may be a risk factor for hemorrhoids. Therefore, to treat hemorrhoids, it is advisable for patients to abandon this habit.

From a study examining relationship between phone use on the toilet and hemorrhoids.

Does it flare up when you eat a lot of rich food or consume more alcohol?

Time for you to get a colonoscopy anyway based on your age.

Wife changed appointment from regular doctor to a gastroenterologist, so I assume he’ll want to do a colonoscopy. Thanks everyone

Looking forward to a scope entering my a-hole, fantastic If nothing else, if everything is clear good piece of mind I guess. My heart has always been biggest concern due to family history, never thought about my arse area being a problem

OP is out of peak age range for IBD (not to be confused with IBS) which includes Crohn's dz and UC. Also, if I read OP correctly, no pain involved, which really lessens the likelihood of IBD. Sounds like an anal fissure or hemorrhoid - especially with it being a small amount of bright red blood and if blood is not admixed with stool. Anal fissures tend to be healing/recurring and can be managed pretty well if you can keep your stool soft and BMs regular. See a GI doc or CRS (colon and rectal surgeon) if you have one in your community. Probably something very simple and benign, but until you have proper workup done you will have it hanging over your head.

I’ll be seeing one next week, gastro. Blood is just in the toilet water, not mixed inside stool. Thanks

I've had intermittent issues with blood in stool. When I was 39 I noticed blood in stool and had a colonoscopy, which was normal. I've had 2 more, including my recommended post-50 (I'm 55 now), both normal. Internal hemmoroids was the cause.
