Will probably be moving there soon and will need a good place to continue doing CrossFit. I haven’t been to any there. Google shows there are a few. Which do you guys recommend?

My vote would also be Red Stick. I workout there whenever I’m in town visiting my folks. Great space and nice, friendly people.

Not sure. Just know the coach is the best and has a lifetime of oly lifting experience.

Also, honorable mention that is just a ways out of BR is Slingin Iron in Walker. Again, a coach with life long oly experience.

The two biggest are Red Stick CF and Geaux CF.

The GCF space is brand new. Ownership moved it and built their own gym. RSCF tends to be more competition oriented, though.

However, the workout at GCF was terrible today:

FT:
50 Box Jumps 30/24
50 KBS 70/53
50 Knee to elbow (tougher than TTB)
50 Wall balls 30/20
50 burpees

They both seem to allow walk ins to try it, so that might be the best bet. The box I go to currently is in a Crowley and is a really loose inviroment with people joking around, which I like (yes the coaches do take it seriously, too). I’ve made a lot of great friends there. Id hate for it to be like a damn drill sergeant in my ear the entire time, but that’s me

Also a few minutes outside of Baton Rouge is Slingin' Iron which is a damn nice brand new gym.

ETA...just realized someone else posted this already

Is Slinging iron the one that flooded badly? Are they in the same space?

No, that was Upshot on Range just north of I12.

Slingin didn’t flood, but they recently moved to a new location just east of Walker on 190.

This is definitely Geaux's style. I can't speak to RSCF's style.. I know they take it a bit more seriously, but I've never heard bad things either.

May be a stupid question but I don't know much about crossfit other than a few documentaries but,

If I joined a box would I have to do kipping pull ups to make the WODs?

No. If you want to do strict pull-ups, no one will stop you.

The benefit of GCF is that it’s open from 5am-8:30pm Mon-Thur and 5am-7:00pm Friday

Class workouts during the week:
5am, 6am, 9am, 12pm, 3pm, 4pm, 5pm, 6pm, 7:30pm (no 7:30pm on Fri)

Saturday is open from 7am-10am with one class WOD from 9-10.

Sunday is open from 2pm-4pm only. No scheduled WOD.

During the week (M-F) you can go whenever you want and lift on your own at any time during gym hours, but if a class is in session, you have to lift in the separate lifting area: 3 platforms, GHD, 2 flat to incline benches, etc. If class is not in session, the whole gym is open to members.
