Ive had on and off knee pain in this one spot on my inner left knee since i was 12.
It comes and goes my whole life and never flares up for more than a week.
Well it flared up in Sept and hasnt gone back. Went to an ortho and did a MRI and today he said it showed a small tear but it didnt turn over(i forgot what that means), but basically he said i can live with it and hope it goes back down or just do a scope and be done with it.
Anyone have experience with this? I love to run and do Yoga and lift and dont want to stop

I’ve had both of mine done. You’ll be back to 100% in 3-4 weeks. Worth it!

Sounds like your referring to a bucket handle meniscus tear maybe?
Unless your a college age athlete the chance of repairing is very small.
The meniscectomy or “clean up” takes about 10-15 mins done under a scope. You would be able to go back to work on Monday if you had it done on a Friday.

I’ve actually read where most people don’t need surgery and running or lifting on it won’t hurt it more
It’s on the lower right side of my left knee.

My right knee slowly progressed to where it was hard to get dressed. Had it scoped and was back running/lifting in no time.
My left knee I couldn’t run. It would flare up bad. I was able to squat without issues. It caused pain when going to bed and was hard to get comfortable at rest which caused me to elect for Sx.
Both of mine were bilateral meniscus tears with bakers cyst.
Having my left one done 2 days before Ida wasn’t ideal!!

I have. It flared up twice, once about 7 years ago and again two years later.
Both times it lasted about 4-6 weeks and I went to physical therapy three times a week. Learned some exercises, did them at home and avoided anything to stress the knee and I’ve been fortunate enough that the pain went away on its own.
Hasn’t been an issue since August 2016.
Eta: I have intentionally chosen to not run more than 5 miles at a time again. I used to do 8-10 miles but that’s done. I’m not sure if that made things worse, tbh.
First issue was when I was coming off my most active workouts of my life. Second time was when I was busy with school and work and hardly exercising.

Yea; left knee. My knee would actually seem to get physically stuck in flexion position. I got it cleaned up and did some PT and all better. If it bothers you, get it cleaned up.

I've had knee surgeries on my right knee and all or them helped a lot.
First was a partial ligament tear repair and cartilage debris removal. Second was an ACL replacement using my own tissue as a replacement ligament, so more invasive.
Third was to open the knee, clean it out and install a couple drain tubes when I got a real bad staph infection after Katrina.
Every surgery was a success and since 06 I've not had any issues with my knee.

I’ve had both my cleaned out as well. Tears weren’t in a repairable spot.
One knee was so bad typically at night that I literally would have loved to rip my leg off and meds didn’t help.
Recovery was easy and I haven’t had an issue since.

It won’t hurt the tear more but dear Lord o would end runs often in a limp and with a swollen knee.
I didn’t know how joyous running could be until I got them cleaned out.

Tore my lateral meniscus when I was 20
Hurt like a bitch when I would walk up stairs , after every step .
Had the rehab bike working hard 2 days after scope surgery ( ortho said I was blessed to have more meniscus to start with than most folks so what I inevitably lost hasn’t hindered me )

Tore my Medial Meniscus this year, lots of pain, weakness, and eventual atrophy of surrounding muscles.
I went through the entire process leading up to surgery and cancelled. Apparently there is a decent risk of developing worse arthritis if you get the surgery, and the success rate long term isn’t overly impressive. It’s also $5K out of pocket.
So, I started ATG (Knees over toes guy) stuff 10wks ago and restarted linear progression on squats from bar only. Told myself I’d give it until the Spring and reconsider surgery if I don’t like the results.
10wks in, I rarely have pain, occasional discomfort, I’m getting stronger and light running is painless.

I had both done last year and was back in the gym the next week lifting upper body and riding a stationary bike. I do what I want now pain free.

Surgery is a piece of cake. Easy recovery. Got rid of my pain. I would recommend it if your doc does.
