Anyone else deal with Panic attacks?

I’ve been dealing with them here as of late and I hate them. Any solutions I can try? Tia.

Treat the source of the attack not the panic attack itself.

I used to deal with them horribly where I was having at least 5-10 major per day along with 50-60 minor and now they’re extremely under control. Literally the only thing that brings them on for me nowadays is the stress that heavy, intense weightlifting puts on my endocrine and nervous systems, so I started doing BJJ instead and I feel amazing.
In my extremely in-depth multi-year process of going to 5 or so doctors to make them stop, I found that doctors generally don’t seem to have a good understanding of panic attacks, why they happen, or how to prevent them. They’ll just put you on benzos (which I refused to do) and tell you good luck.
You DO NOT need to get on medicine permanently to be normal again. I don’t know your situation, your habits, or anything else I’d need to know to offer my experience, but CBT was extremely effective for me along with changing some unhealthy “bro science” habits and replacing them with healthy ones.

I had my first panic attack when I was 32 years old. It came completely out of nowhere, and I had never had any kind of issues prior to that. Doc wanted to pump me full of Xanax. That was his solution.
Things have improved since then. I haven’t had a full on attack in many years. I’ve noticed that diet really impacts it...the more junk I eat, the more likely I am to have an attack.

On a personal level I wasn’t eating enough carbs, fats, or fruits/veggies in favor of the “””healthy””” chicken and rice diet to look shredded, I was taking a ton of supplements which were horrible for my health, and I was buying into the David Goggins “you’re a bitch if you slow down and take a break” and completely overworking myself for months at a time, I can name a lot but it was really a bunch of things like that and they all added up to make me feel like absolute shite

If you live in a city you may just need some time in the country side. Maybe go camping or some such and stay off your phone. A break from modernity.

Low dose SSRI, exercise (cardio specifically), and prayer/mindfulness.
Mental health is an overlooked but important thing.

Are you stressed?? Thinking about too many things? Are you facing decisions or a big life change?
I used to get them - but nothing major. So I added exercise and more praying to my daily schedule. I was never prescribed anything because I was afraid to take it anyway. They used to trigger my asthma - which is why I went to the dr.
Do you have someone you can talk to about ‘stuff’?

Yep.
I keep one in my pocket at all times.
I try to push through them. But having it on me is a good safety blanket . I take it when I feel I need to.

I absolutely agree with the replies re: big picture life, spiritual, faith, etc stuff. But I'll stick to the lifestyle and nutrition aspects: Mg chloride, D3, exercise (esp outdoors), down time from all devices, breathing (I use running for breathing exercises), sauna, and i find getting into a decent ketogenic state once a day helps (beta-hydroxybuterate has been shown to enhance mood, and just a basic 16 hr fast plus a walk and limiting carbs gets you some BHB), and cutting sugar helps stabilize the brain chemicals by reducing insulin spikes.
And perhaps more important than all of that is sleep. Good sleep without alcohol (which also is terrible for anxiety).
I'm not going to endorse CBD for anything. But I do take it in pretty high doses (120mg/day) and microdose other cannabinoids mostly for pain. This can of course backfire for anxiety but I have it dialed in pretty well.

Cannabis does the exact opposite for me. It causes panic attacks.

Yeah that's why I would never recommend it (apart from the fact that I'm not a doctor lol). I'm still on the fence as to whether CBD is anything more than snake oil. But when I upped the dose of full-spectrum (Charlotte's Web 60mg/ml strength) to 120mg a day, I definitely noticed sleep and relaxation effects. But could be placebo. And THC is seriously a microdose situation for me. Getting "high" is no bueno for me.

Just a few suggestions (I also have had a history of panic attacks):
- Get a checkup and blood workup from your doc. Sometimes a vitamin/mineral deficiency can cause anxiety symptoms. This may also help resolve any potential anxiety you may have that something "physical" is causing it.
- If your magnesium levels aren't high, try Magnesium Glycinate. It helps with my anxiety and muscle tension, doesn't cause stomach issues, and isn't a prescription.
- Yoga (particularly focusing on your breathing) and mindfulness practices (like meditation). I like the Insight Timer app for meditation.
- Seeing a therapist for Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. It can help you get to the root of what's causing them. They can also refer you to a professional for medication if needed.
I started having them after my younger brother passed suddenly in '09. I very rarely have them now (I've had one in the last year) and know how to handle it when I do.

I've taken all of the various readily available Mg compounds, for sleep, cramps and mood. I can't even remember which one I'm taking now bc I loaded my old-man pill boxes for long holiday trip. I've read studies where the used mg chloride bc citrate can cause runs. And I take glycinate or a complex.
Do you have sort of a definitive guide on Mg compounds?
