I’ll readily admit I’m not good with computers.
The reason I believe the way I do about diet is because of books I’ve read
China Study by Colin Campbell
Mad Cowboy by Howard Lyman
The Blue Zones byDan Buettner
Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease by Caldwell Esselstyn,Jr.,M.D.
There are others.
As I said I tried vegetarian diet but couldn’t hack it.My wife and I eat plant based diet ,no beef, chicken 2-3 times a year,no dairy.Eat about 11/2 once nuts daily.Rarely eat fast food.
I’m 70,she’s 68 and neither of us take any meds.Seems to be working for us.
Anecdotal:One Sunday School Class of 7 men talking about their heart issues,I was the only one that hadn’t had bypass surgery or stents.3 of them have had both.
They’re old country baws that eat the SAD,I don’t say anything about diet, they wouldn’t believe it.There is so much heart disease in our area(,all of Louisiana, actually) that it is considered normal.
People take diet serious ,similar to religion and politics.I have several friends around my age whose health is somewhat precarious and I’ve tried to talk to them about their diets. They tend to get pissed so I keep my mouth shut for the most part.

There was a vedic or buddhist monk, i forget, who basically said to avoid red meat because they have more chakras than fish, chicken, or the like. He said why it was bad but I've long forgotten.

Why?

Mainly just based on how I feel. Not for some earthy environmental BS reason or anything like that.

I personally just feel better eating mainly chicken and fish. I also tend to overeat when I have red meat because I love it so much, which in turn leads to that slumped feeling.

FWIW I did eat a 12 oz filet last night. I’m not against it at all, just try to limit it because of how it makes me feel. But I love it.

Yea. That shite is low quality and more processed than a lot of meats. 9G protein and damn near 500mg of sodium. Awful stuff.

I’m effectively meatless for ethical reasons. Wouldn’t choose to do it otherwise

Not sure I feel a whole lot different, but it just sort of happened over time

From a lifestyle perspective, I’ve found that your convenience options are severely limited so it’s more difficult to eat really poorly. On the flip side, the American idea of what a meatless dish is can be ridiculous which makes it tough. Depending upon where you are, you’ll get some selection of the following:

1. 1:1 replacement of conventional dish with meat subbed for meat substitute of variable quality.
2. Vegetable hamfisted into dish in the same way that you would meat (e.g., cauliflower steak).
3. Something mailed-in with tofu to cover both vegetarians and vegans. My opinion is that you could sub paneer for tofu in any dish, and it’d immediately be 10 times better.
4. Actual well-thought dish.

There are entire cultures to draw from for inspiration, so it shouldn’t be that hard. It does make cooking at home a little more interesting because I tend to branch out more.

Anecdotally, within the diet, I do notice a huge improvement in satiety and exercise recovery if I heavily supplement protein. Would recommend paying close attention to protein consumption if you’re at all active and looking to go down this route. Obviously, things get even more difficult if you’re looking to go vegan.

Watch the movie “Forks over Knives”.
The premise is that what you put on your fork can keep you from going under the knife. Trailer

99% of the bullshite posted in this thread is just that. 100% of the so called studies or documentaries are too.

But with that being said, The example the older gentleman posted about his sunday school class is freaking sad. Its crazy to think that being 70 and not having heart disease is something to brag about, but in this day in age...it absolutely is.

The bigger thing with the plant based diet is most people that are willing to go that far....well they are going to be paying attention to everything that goes in thier bodies. In turn they are not over eating and are not pounding down the twinkies.

There is nothing special about a plant based diet. If done correctly you are trading excess micro nutrition for a deficit in macro nutrition. But if it gets someone paying attention to what they are eating...go for it. Just be realistic and understand that you are prolly going to be skinny fat at best.

Anyone who feels that way can fix those by finding a local farmer. You might pay a bit more, but you’ll understand the process better. My last 1/2 cow was an aging milk girl who was ready to move on. And she was delicious, but lived a great life.

I eat plant based diet. First thing you have to get over is how full you are. When you transition being veggie becomes eating a lot of side dishes. That takes time to get used to but you adjust and it’s nice.

One thing I noticed was how much meat I was eating was crap. Overcook and under seasoned and not good. So I only eat meat purposefully now. ( Burger place or Steak house etc.).

One concern will be amount of protein you eat. By going veggie there are 3 of the 12 amino acids you will lack. Also get a multivitamin with B12 to supplement. I just have a protein shake daily to help supplement but hitting protein macros is much harder veggie. Some people will claim it’s easy but it’s def not as easy as eating meat.

Honestly, I hit my biggest lifts while plant based so it’s definitely not a terrible idea. Also my chosletrol levels were much lower after going plant based. I still go plant based and eat meat 1 to 2 times a week.

If you have any other questions just let me know. I’ve enjoyed it and plan to continue to be plant based long term. Last night I tried a tri tip and jackfruit tacos and the jackfruit ones were easily much better.

Re: Test levels. I’ve seen zero difference. Honestly doing glute bridges, drinking extra water, and doing yoga has definitely increased my libido in the past.

The thing about diets is there are advocates for and studies supporting about any kind of diet you can imagine.I personally believe in the China Study even though I don’t strictly follow it.I do eat a little meat, mostly venison but not every day.My personal belief is that a little meat is ok,most Americans eat too much of it .That’s opposite of what the Kato-Carnivore diet people believe.
It also seems that there are people that thrive on crap diets-Donald Trump and Warren Buffett come to mind.
The most extreme case of I know personally is a Dr. I used to work with in the E.R. in the late 70’s. He was very smart but I couldn’t believe how he would eat.He would go the cafeteria and come back with 3 or 4 desserts,no meat,no vegetables. We both moved on and I didn’t see him for years and awhile back I ran into him at Wal Mart grocery section. His frikken basket had nothing but junk-cookies,cakes and ice cream, crap I don’t buy ( but would like to). He’s still going strong in private practice and looks fine, only slightly overweight.Just a freak of nature,I guess.

Guy I work with eats nothing but fried foods and beef, absolutely no vegetables or fruits and ONLY drinks cokes, no water or anything else. His cholesterol is extremely low..........but his BP is through the roof, he also runs a lot. Plant based seems like something I’d like to look into, sounds like people still eat meat just not as much, I also deer hunt and fish

Fellas, it isn’t that hard. Moderation and balance is key in both ingredients and portion sizes.

- Eat a balanced diet. Eat plenty of vegetables and fruits high in fiber and with key vitamins and minerals. You also need carbs for energy and proteins for obvious reasons
- Don’t eat ridiculous portion sizes. This is something most Americans have no idea about. We eat so damn much.
- Drink plenty of water.
- Vigorously exercise often.
- Stretch and rest.
- sometimes allow yourself a treat. Life is too short to do otherwise.

Well glad I know this so I can ignore everything you say from now on.

I dunno how many times I have to tell yall, but one more time....

Correlation does not equal causation

Dunno why that is so hard for people to understand.

You should be supplementing B12 no matter what diet you are on
