I recently joined and I am looking for guys to play with when I travel over there. I have taken two trips with my Houston guys so far but after they all go I will look to find some sort of “regular game” that I can get into when in town.

Age? Hdcp? Tee boxes you play from? What days do you normally play? Looking for early morning?

Most of the ‘regular’ groups are older, but there are exceptions. I’d avoid playing in the well known banker and giant a-hole group. You’ll learn about him soon enough.

Honestly, your best bet is to communicate with the pro shop. One you start to learn the regulars, the app becomes extremely useful. So I highly recommend getting the app on your phone.

You joined a club in Ruston, LA but live in Houston? Holy shite that is a long way to drive just for a round of golf.

I am obviously kidding, but kinda not or maybe kinda curious. Do you have family there? Are you from NE LA?

Oh and I think Mingo said he is a member from the Mystic thread.

51 - range this year from a 2.3 to 6.0 handicap. Play typically at 6800 yards so I believe that is the Squire tees. Don’t mind a gambling game, my current game in Houston has 70 people on the list and typically have 3 groups of 5 play weekly. You can win or lose on average 100 bucks but can swing higher if you get unlucky but never enough to ruin the spirit of camaraderie so to speak.

Thursday - Sunday game games, doesn’t matter the time just want a fun group.

I have asked Robert to introduce me to people so I will see how that works out.
——————————-

My mother and father live in Bossier on Stonebridge course, mother has Parkinson’s so I will try and come up monthly to see her and then play at Squire a couple of times.

With the golf houses on property it makes it easy to stay or even bring my wife and daughter so they can lay out at the pool while I play golf.

I say that in the Mystic thread thats why I started a thread to see if there were more that were members that I could meet and play. With. I thoroughly enjoyed Mystic and that allows me another great place to play within short distance for a change of pace.

Been an out of town member for a good while. Only get up that way a few times a year though. I would recommend getting with Robert to introduce you to a good group. Welcome to the club!

That is crazy. Everyone tells me the greens are like a Disney roller coaster. However, Disney roller coasters have height limits. I am confused.

Greens are extremely undulating and quick. Combine that with the elevation changes and you have one hell of a golf course. Definately one you have to play multiple times to know where to leave approaches.

There are several families from the DFW area that are members. The plan a trip over once a month - arrive Thursday afternoon - swim, eat, golf all weekend and head back Sunday afternoon.

Of course, they stay on property.

I play there every second or third Wednesday of the month. I’m usually playing with clients but normally have 4 guys. Sometimes 3. We play around 2pm.

Can't hide money I guess.

I couldn't justify a membership if I was only getting up that way that few times. I probably make it back home to visit family now about 3 or 4 times outside of hunting season and I am gonna drive up to Mystic for those trips.

We all chose to spend money differently. I enjoy the time I spend there and appreciate what the ownership and staff provide.

It is funny how people in Louisiana think of golf. I know guys that have big arse boats they rarely use, fishing camps and hunting camps they go to maybe once a month.

People in Louisiana think the above is perfectly normal. But will comment about golf:

It's not just in Louisiana. I'm in Texas and one of the younger members at our country club. My buddies all give me crap about the dues and stuff per month but yet they go out and spend hundreds every other weekend fishing.

You summed it up perfectly. A lot of people enjoy going to LSU football games. There was a time where I was one of those…..but now I prefer to spend my leisure money on golf related things. My out of town membership runs me a couple hundred a month. I think when I joined the initiation fee was $6k. For that course……I think it’s a bargain!

Another great example. I know people who have Stadium club seats and go to away games plus tailgating. Easily more than a golf membership.

Hey to each his own. I live in H-town and my playing time is spread out a pretty good bit on the all the courses here that are just on my side of town. I couldn't fathom having a membership to a club that was in a state I didn't even live in. I would never go there to play. Way to many good courses around here to keep me occupied and when I do make it back home, I am driving to Mystic anyway or trying to bum a spot at BDCC.
