Played in our League finale this past Saturday and I just choked. 4 FIR and 5 GRI. Was lucky to scramble for pars and bogeys in the first half of the front nine.

I tried everything. 5 wood off the tee. Driving iron off the tee. Choked down 3/4 swings. Nothing. Chunking irons from fairway. Thin shots from fairway.
Usually good from bunkers and just brain farts all over. Frustrating.

How do you guys reset during a round like that?

Then I would just be drunk and miserable.

Just play my miss which is usually a rope hook.

Slowly, I’ll remember to turn my body and get it back. But in the mean time, slingers

Should have done more of this. Usually my choked down 3/4 swings find fairways. It was just a bad day. That punch was bad, but not as bad as full swings for sure.
Thanks.

Sounds mental. For me at least, this is my greatest challenge.

When things fall apart I get raging mad. Which just makes it ten times worse. I can legit turn into a damn lunatic on the golf course.

When this happens, I walk away from the cart. I will walk from the green to the next tee alone and just try to calm down. Then I concentrate everything I have on the next shot. I just tell myself to get one good ball down range and go from there. Swing as slow and calm as possible to the point of gross exaggeration. Once I get a ball in the fairway, I tell myself "you did it once, do it again." Then I just go from there.

I figure the round is screwed based on the previous holes so why think about the round as a whole after that? I just go looking for the enjoyment of the one great shot.

During? Probably not happening.

Next day generally have figured out something better to do and it’s improved

Really easy, matter of fact.

Take 2 weeks off, then quit...

Step 1: Return clubs to bag
Step 1B (Optional) Say "frick this fricking shite" at a minimum 100db volume
Step 2: Return to clubhouse
Step 3: Order 2 beers
Step 4: Repeat Step 3 until satisfaction

I develop a new strategy after every round.

It sounds so good in my head until the next round and it punches me in the mouth.

Luckily I am now at the age where I know my best rounds are behind me and I am happy to just wake up every day and can move around.

Find one thought.

Any thought. A mantra.

Count or sing.
Sing Are you Lonesome tonight while you swing. Or any song that is 3/4 time.

The mind struggles with don’t.
So find a target and swing.

^ive been here.

Usually someone will remind me that I’m not good enough to get mad over this game.

And eventually something good will happen.

I lost it completely today.

Tried lots of self directed profanity.

Did not help.

I've heard of someone only playing a putter. Wonder how many bad rounds drove him to that decision
