We go through this dance every year. The players advance scouting a course make a big kerfuffle about the rough length, the USGA caves and shaves it down, scores are lower than they should be because they don't want to make the players angry. Winning score at a US Open should be E par.

ngl the push mowers is a comical sight. very slapstick.

It looks like they asked a bunch of drunk fans to just start pushing

I was listening to a podcast last week where someone from the USGA said we'd get a bunch of people bitching about cutting the grass when the first video shows the mowers. They're likely not cutting much, and cutting it makes the grass stand straighter and more likely to swallow balls.

You think it wasn’t going to be cut at all this week? Do people not realize the grass gets cut every day at most tournaments? The rough may be allowed to grow from the first day to the last but this isn’t news.

You still can’t see their shoes though. It’s going to be nasty

1/4 of an inch. Cabbage is 4 3/4 inches for now. Too much rain in the Pittsburgh area, if they hadn't cut it would be outrageous. That was the Golf Channels explaining.

Lol yep. I believe it was on Shotgun Start or Fried Egg. It was Mike Mccormick who is head Super at Oakmont. Looks like he nailed it based on the Op's post.

I just looked it up. I think it was No Laying Up and Jeff Hall, who is the managing director of USGA rules and open championships.

Looks like Halld and McCormick both brought it up. Yet with both of these guys saying don't worry, we have people panicked on a Monday.

Yeah, I mean zoom out and look at the whole picture here.
It’s Monday, they had a little rain over the weekend I believe. Moisture and sunshine, getting into the mid 80’s by the weekend on a course that’s been perfectly maintained with fertilizer, pgr’s, etc. It’s gonna be fine.
They’re not giving it a summer hair cut. They’re giving it that school picture cut.
