Tour Championship

First round is underway. 30 players playing for a 45 million dollar purse with the winner getting 15 million. I'm not sure that I like this scoring format with Cantlay starting out at -10.

This is why the "Playoffs" is so stupid.
If you make the cut each week, you're in for the next week. Everyone should start at Zero. All year points are going toward getting into that first playoff tournament.

I don't like the format either but looks like beautiful weather in Atlanta this weekend and a pretty nice field of golfers.

I agree with this. Top 60 players make playoffs based on points accumulated through the season. Then points are finished. Top 60 play first playoff for spot in next round, which top 45 based on score. If there are ties then the points from the season is the tiebreaker. Then for tour championship everyone plays at same time (shotgun start).

Don't like the format either.
I know why they don't do it (TV, sponsors, etc), but I would love to see a 32 player match play final.

I actually like the starting advantage. There are so many things they are trying to accomplish with the FedEx Cup that there isn't going to be a perfect set-up.
You want to create interest year round that helps the lesser tournaments. You want to reward good play during the season with advantages in the playoffs. You want to have an exciting playoff scenario.
The only thing I could see improving on all those requirements is doing what many of you have said; matchplay. have the top player play the bottom. The only problem is I don't think the Networks like matchplay.

I think they just need to change how they gap out the strokes. If you aren't say top 10 or top 5 then you are at even. Give the #1 spot 5 strokes, 2nd -4, 3rd -3, 4th -2, and 5th -1 or break that up over the top 10, but I prefer just top 5.

They should get rid of the scoring format for the championship then adjust the purse to
$20m for season winner (season long performance)
$10m for tournament winner (hot today)
$15m for playoff winner (hot over the last three weeks)

We do a draft and use stroke play, not fed ex enhanced play. Leader at -8 for now.

30 golfers, 15 matches?? Seems like enough to me.
ETA: My head was somewhere other than above my shoulders. The field would have to be increased to 32 if you converted to match play.
