is near the toe on all my irons. Any thoughts on the most common cause. I'm a single digit handicap.

You’re hitting it on the toe a lot imho.

If you really are a single digit cap, randoms on a message board would be the last place you should go. Get a pro/teacher to look at it or get your swing on film. Preferably both.

Normally this pattern in a weaker player might be associated with too flat a lie. Other potential causes are out to in swing or standing a bit too close to the ball. Moving it back in your stance about an inch may help (1/2 inch every two-three weeks to avoid such a big move).

Have you been fitted? I agree that your lie angle is probably too flat.

I've been fitted. Lie angle is good. probably just coming across the ball I'm thinking. Just noticed the wear marks recently...was very surprised. Its not way out on the toe, but not dead center either.

If it’s out toward the toe you need to get the lie of your clubs checked. Sounds like you could be digging the toe into the turf first which would lead to toe strikes…DLIII made a living hitting a golf ball like that

Are you fading the ball? If so, probably coming over the top just a tad. Or the irons are too flat.

I was a scratch golfer and played in college with a wear mark on the toe of all of my clubs.

For me, it was because my tendency was always to be a bit quick, over the top, and want to cast the club. It wasn’t a lot and I could obviously play with it, but it did make almost all of my misses be on the toe.

If you take your left hand and make it super strong and this makes you hit uncontrollable hooks, then you prolly have the same swing tendency as me.

I’m at 6 and had the same problem. I was coming out of my swing. Standing up just a little. Try keeping your weight more on your heels for a while just to get the feeling of turning rather than coming up and out. Good luck. It’s so frustrating to hit it right at the green and come up short because it’s not flush.

You can manipulate this by hand position at impact. If youre out of the toe and the club is too flat if your hands are lower you’ll change the lie angle to more upright and most like move the contact more toward the heel. If you’re a single digit you could probably experiment with that. But, ultimately if it is an issue for your game see a pro and that will be diagnosed in probably 5 minutes

Jesus Christ. How about just addressing the ball an inch further back?

My USGA handicap index is currently a 10.6. I have this issue on my short irons. I believe it is because I have a steep swing with an over the top tendency on misses. I was told at my Golftec swing analysis this was due to bad rotation. The fix was flattening out my back swing. I'll try and post my before and after swing video from Golftec when the site works again. But it was obvious to the coach after a just a few swings.

Don't worry about these guys quesitoning your HCap. I consider myself a good ball striker with my irons and would be single digits if I improved my driving enough to keep it in bounds from the tee box. It shouldn't be out of people's realm of possibility.

I'm an 8 amigo. I don't play or practice enough to improve. I can string 5-6 holes together, then I fall out of a tree. Same thing for me. If I can get off the tee in the fairway I'm good and I might score.
