Si Woo Kim stock yardages video showing us we are bad at golf

This video of his stock yardages was posted and he’s really not longer than me or a lot of people I play with, especially with his irons

I know his lofts could be different and yada yada but the reality is he’s not a pro golfer because he’s super human and hits the ball a mile. He’s a pro golfer because he’s WAY, WAY, better than you (or me).
At least I can look at an NBA player or NFL player and realize no matter how good at the game I could be, I would never be able to make it because of genetics. I’ve got no excuses as to why Si Woo would beat my arse up and down a golf course

He can probably name off exactly how far he’s about to hit each of those stock shots down to a yard or two also.
He definitely playing traditional lofts on those irons too

I bet you’re right. I can probably get mine right within 20 yards

Years ago I played a set of Lynx Black Oxide Parralaxx iron and I could hit those yards easily with those irons.
I had a Original Callaway Big Bertha 2 wood that could get 280 off the tee with a Titleist Professional ball.
300 yards drives were fairly attainable playing a Ping Tisi tech driver 8.5 loft with a Penly Tour light shaft and the same ball.
The huge difference between tour pro's and elite amateurs is chipping and putting.

The opposite, actually.

Mark Broadie’s book “Every Shot Counts” goes through all the data for shots gained.
A tour pro is better in every category.
However they gain the most shots on “regular” golfers of the tee and approach shots.
They are elite putters and short game players, but ball striking is king according to the data.
LINK
“ The greatest disparity between pros and scratch players is in bunker play, approaches from 200-225 yards, and putting from 20-25 feet. These differences are staggering. From the sand, PGA Tour players average just under 10 feet from the hole, while scratch players average nearly 20 feet. Pros are also nearly twice as good on approach shots from 200-225 yards, where they average 41’3”, while scratch players hit it to over 80 feet on average.”
An article breaking down some of the differences.
Interesting.

These guys set up their clubs for soft flat setups that the TOUR goes back to week after week. And they use really spinny balls.
You don’t hit your driver over 300 and your 7 iron under 170 from a speed perspective unless you are altering the spin and launch conditions of the iron.
TOUR courses are driver, wedge to pins on 1% slopes, they don’t need distance setups with their irons. Ams are the exact opposite, which is why clubs like P790 are so popular. Launch high and long letting the bad player hit a club with more loft and offset creating more forgiveness.

I can dial mine in on anything below a 6 down to a 5 yard range and hit it 7/10.
They’ll do it 95/100. That’s probably a 5-6 shot differential on each round just on that.
Not to mention their dispersion is better. Mine is pretty good up to an 8, it gets a good bit bigger up to a 3 iron and theirs stays good though at least a 5.

I friend of mine who won the US Pub Links went to Q School 5 times and played in the YS Open at Shinnecock.
He always said, everyone hit it long and straight. But there were huge differences in the winners when it came to short game and it was real putting contest.

Maybe he just didn't understand what he was seeing.
It's indisputable that there is a much smaller difference between pros and elite ams in putting and short game vs off the tee and approach.

Michael Block made viral comments suggesting that if he could hit the ball as far as McIlroy, he would be one of the best players in the world. McIlroy later good-naturedly addressed the comments on a podcast, defending Block's exceptional short game but pushing back on his distance assumptions while noting that such viral fame can lead to misquoted or regretted soundbites

That’s deceptive. He’s playing normal/traditional lofts….most amateur irons these days have retardedly strong lofts. Some of the GI sets have 8
Irons with the loft of traditional 5 irons
Irons with the loft of traditional 5 irons

He’s not playing with juiced clubs.
That’s all.
