Rules officials approached DeChambeau on the range following his third round to let him know they were looking into the legality of using a compass during competition, but that regardless of their findings, nothing would be done retroactively.

“They said, ‘Hey, we just want to let you know that we’re investigating the device and seeing if it’s allowable,'” DeChambeau said. “I understand. It wouldn’t be the first time this has happened.

How does a compass help you putt or find the "true" pin location? I am confused

He is using a Mathematical Compass...
Not the directional tool that points north.

I'm not sure how he is using it but it makes more sense to me once I realized which type of "compass" they were talking about.

I understand what he's trying to do, but I'm starting to think this guy is way over thinking the game of golf.

What a douche

If you outlaw the green books, it gets rid of this as well

This is why I love golf. You’ve got this guy dissecting every minutia of the course and golf swing...

And then you’ve got guys like Dustin Johnson who likely can’t rememeber what they did on the hole the day before

I think he's trying to BS everybody into thinking he's the Einstein of golf.

That sound about right?

I like what Couples caddie told him one time. Freddie asked the yards to the pin. The caddie told him "146 147". Freddie said "Well which one is it?" The caddie said "It doesnt matter, you're not that good"

If I'm remembering correctly, DJ played a practice round with DeChambeau and Phil at one of the majors a couple years ago. DJ said in an interview after that he may not be able to break 80 if he hangs around those two much longer.

He's jumped from around 100 into the top 25 this year already, so whatever he's doing I'd tell him to keep it up.

Phil said on Feherty that to be good at golf, you either have to be really smart or really dumb.

Probably doesn't even work he just wants to be different.

He’s definitely over the top, but it’s working for him so I don’t know why he’d change.
