Most Overrated Shot in Tiger Woods’ Career

Has to be the “flop shot” at the 2012 Memorial. Announcers talking about how difficult it was.
In reality- the lie was not terrible and the wind was back into his face.
Now I’m not saying I would jar it like he did, but in terms of that shot being “difficult” no! I would say a 0-3 handicap could get that ball up and down pretty easily.

Announcers make all shots seem difficult. One of the things I hate about them. Then if someone sticks it close from 100 yards out in the middle of the fairway, "Wow did you see how great of a shot was that"

The chip in on 16 at Augusta. Davis Love III made the same shot years before that. It was a great shot, but the slope gave it a chance and he got lucky that it dropped. The moment is what made it, not the shot itself.

You fools gotta get off the rag and find something better to bitch about!

If tweet fails to load, click here. I mean… seems like you’re exaggerating the overrated nature here. There were only 4 birdies all day on that hole. Put him in the lead by 1 as well. So I’m just gonna disagree with you here.

Downhill lie out of the rough to a downslope seems pretty high on the degree of difficulty to me.

Not to underestimate the Water.

Probably his shot in the dark tbh.

I was in attendance at Firestone for that shot and completely disagree. It was darker than it looks on the replay. Also, have you ever tried hitting a golf ball in the dark? It’s really difficult because you can’t tell exactly where the ground is during a swing.

He made a lot of great shots.
He also made many more good shots.
When his putter was hot, he was almost impossible to beat.
He won so much that some of the wins included shots that were memorable.
As far as “overrated”, I’m not sure I can judge whether a given shot is “overrated.” Mostly because my ability is limited and he had talent and worked hard.
Unlikely? Maybe, but only using shots gained.
I’m sure Tiger would say most chips/pitches need a kiss of luck to fall into the hole, but skill is needed to give the ball a chance.

I can comfortably say that 95/100 people who hit that shot are not with 12 feet of the hole. Downhill, short sided, with the tournament on the line.....
Yea this shot is extremely difficult.

I'd say a lot of pros could get it within a few feet, but the execution in the moment is what makes it great.

I’ve been to the Memorial several times. The 16th hole is one of the toughest par 3s on tour, if not the toughest. That flop shot is all downhill and extremely fast, running toward the water. For him to land it that softly out of the rough under pressure is exactly why he’s an icon. He’s done it on many occasions. Even Jack joked that he’s holed out at the Memorial more times than anyone he has seen.

Jack Nicklaus said it was one of the best shots he’s ever seen if my memory is correct.
