It has fallen out of my rotation, for sure. I'll play Webb any day over LSU right now and I thought I would never live long enough to say that.

I told someone exactly that today. Never thought I’d see the day, but Webb is in better shape and more fun to play.

Who’s the pro at the LSU course now? I worked there in college when Mike Johnson was the pro.

Awful course. Spend a little more and play the Bluffs or Santa Maria.

Mike Johnson, who is a great guy, hasn't been there for like four years. Mitch Fontenot, the superintendent, quit about three months ago. He was the one holding the place together, like most good superintendents do. As soon as he left, the mayhem began.

It’s a terrible course that should have been closed long ago. Do LSU student fees still keep it afloat?

re: LSU golf course
I used to go 2-3x per week in the winter/spring. Steve, the guy that operates it said that LSU was looking for an excuse to close it and that either way it’s only a matter of time. At the time, I thought “well, they keep it pretty nice for a course on death row”. I haven’t been in a while because the pace of play is absolutely ridiculous. All these posts about it going to shite so fast makes me think the end may be near. Sucks cause it’s the only course, other than maybe Webb, that you could just show up, pay a fee & roll out. Most of my golf is played spur of the moment so I loved the place just for that reason

re: LSU golf course
I believe we need to support the LSU golf course by playing there and buying their merchandise.

Management is not getting the financial support from the administration to provide the public with a top notch course.

If the course was under recreation or the athletic department it would be a different story.

re: LSU golf course
They need to hire a superintendent for the course if they want it to be any good. Steve is a great guy but, believe it or not, it takes some specialized knowledge to produce a playable product, much less an exceptional product.

They probably want to turn it from a money pit to a gold mine by turning it into a parking lot

Even if it makes money there is no way the return is worth having a golf course in that Prime location. It is a terrible investment by LSU. Extremely risky business with huge downside and zero upside.

I've heard its going to become married student housing, not a parking lot.

This made the course great. Not many courses you can do this now days.

It was never a top notch course but it was good for the price and the location.

re: LSU golf course
I am seeing tee times available today and all week at Santa Maria and Webb. I guarantee you can get on City Park as well any day. Little further out, Dumas, Clark, Copper Mill, The Bluffs, The Island you can walk up and get on any day.
