That's surprising and disappointing.

I don’t think it’s that surprising unfortunately. I don’t think the deal is nearly as close as anyone thinks to having the LIv players back on their respective tours.

The more this plays out, the less optimistic I am the players will be back together anytime soon

Ryder Cup has no tie to any tour.

Ryder cup does I think have DP tour ties for the European side, hence why they are banning the players.. For the American side it’s the PGA of America, hence why the American liv guys can play

ETA: just looked it up. You have to be an active member of the DP tour to make the European team

This is correct. Also, I’m not sure how many European guys they’d want to have on the team right now.

I know Rahm kind of wants Sergio, but I have a hard time believing he’d go over well in the European locker room.

I think Brooks and/or DJ could be selected and it wouldn’t be a big deal at all. (Brooks is probably going to auto qualify regardless)

It will take some time. Afterall, LIV golfers are currently under contract so unless the PIF buys all of them out, if they cannot find a way to bring them back to the tours then LIV Golf will have to remain through the life of those deals.

There is time to work out all of these details but until then, its business as usual.

They are under contract with the PIF. There is no need to buy them out. They were always allowed to play the PGA/DP events by LIV rules.

If LIV was going to continue why is there all this talk about a pathway for players to return to their tours? Who will play on LIV then?

Answer: All the PGA and DP players will be "asked" to participate in LIV events. The Saudis own them now, they will tell them where, when, and who to play for.

If the LIV events run in the fall and don’t directly compete with PGA Tour events, while offering enormous purses and appearance fees for the top players in the world, you bet your arse those guys will play.

According to the letter Monihan sent to the PGA Tour players, part of the agreement is that there will be no movement of players between one tour and another until further notice. So, at least for the rest of the year, PGA, DP, and LIV events will continue with the current membership locked in place.

JUST IN: Jimmy Dunne has done an exclusive interview with @SI_Golf with some new details:

— Jay Monahan will be overseeing the PGA TOUR, LIV GOLF and DPWT

— It is up to Monahan to disband LIV if he is to choose. A full evaluation of LIV will be conducted at seasons end

— PIF wont actually contribute anything directly to TOUR players - PIF will get right of first refusal to be tours investment partner at any opportunity through the new company

— Penalties to return to the PGA TOUR could be ‘significant’
no sources, no “we are hearing”, straight from the guy that brokered the deal.

Don’t shoot the messenger, but some posters are about to go off on me

Technicality... They could always play a PGA tour event that did not conflict with LIV events. Hence part of the reason that LIV didn't conflict with majors. But why DJ was in London and not Canada

Or they could be nothing.

Sounds like he is just trying to calm down the players for now. If they had any plans to fine them significantly I would think he would’ve used the word will instead of can.

I think the only thing we can all agree on is no one knows what the heck is actually gonna happen. Should be a fun rest of the season to speculate.

This shouldn't get through the DOJ or the European and UK regulators. It's a straight up monopoly. It probably will, but it shouldn't.

How is it a monopoly now when you didn’t care whether it was 2 years ago? The only difference now is that Saudi money will be backing the PGA as an investment.

Well, LIV was suing that the PGAT was a monopoly. This is now a monopoly on steroids.

To add more, prior to LIV, if I was a golfer who wanted to ply my trade I could have gone to Europe and played on that tour. The PGAT did not "own" the DPWT. Now every tour in the world is under one umbrella. If "Newco" wanted to ban me I'd have nowhere to go, not Korn Ferry, not even the Asian Tour. Now all professional golf in the world is under one umbrella.

That's a monopoly.

Now let's get into TV contracts and sponsors. Do they have any alternatives? Nope, only one game in town. Pay us this or don't broadcast or sponsor golf.

Pure Monopoly.

What’s becoming increasingly clear is that the PGA tour as we know it will stay under the non-profit entity, just like it is now and the for profit entity will have nothing to do with the tour itself. It will be more about investments in things your adjacent.

I don’t know. I thought commercial interests would include sponsors and tv deals. Maybe not.
