It sounds like the players controlling the tour side believe they can outlast LIV. If LIV doesn’t get OWGR points it’s a potential strategy, since ultimately elite players want to play in the majors.
Also highly dependent on the Saudis eventually wearing down or running tired of spending money. Not sure that will happen.

The Saudi's want to make money and hobnob with the world's billionaires who own sports franchises. That means the Arthur Blank's and John Henry's of the world, not Greg Norman. They have the spare cash to wait for theright deal to come along, but they will not just keep sinking their funds into a money pit forever.

The PGA Tour players are making more money now than ever before, and there is more money invested on the Tour than ever before. Plus, a handful of great golfers and lots of good ones have vacated themselves off of the OWGR list, leaving more spots on the list for them and more chances at the majors, plus more opportunities for guys to win regular tournaments. From their perspective, LIV is the best thing to ever happen to the tour.

Jay is not going anywhere.
Jimmy basically lost his power. That is all here guys. I know this for fact. In fact I hung out with Jay the other evening. When the other players came onto the board he lost his voting strength.

We know they won’t, but LIV having guys like Ogletree, Puig, Gooch, & Burmester playing in a major this weekend helps their argument. Augusta might do their best to keep the non-top 50 US guys out, but they want guys like Niemann, Puig, & Dean playing.

He is actually very cool on a personal level. If he bows out though it would be now because his last child is graduating from high school this weekend. Would maybe make sense but it does not feel that way to me.

Maybe it's SSG that are driving the negotiations, being tough, and the players are taking their advice. I can see SSG not rolling over for PIF.

SSG needs LIV and its golfers as much as LIV needs them. SSG will see a much lower ROI without LIV and the PGA in the fold.

It's the player's tour and they'll have the final say, as they should. Sounds like Tiger is in charge now. I'm fine with that.
None of the players have anything close to the experience with complex international transactions that will be required to merge the two tours. Knowing a lot about playing golf doesn’t make one competent in the sports business arena.

Interesting bit from Rory’s interview right now is PIF is working very hard to get a deal done but the PGA tour isn’t really reciprocating. I found that interesting as most on here would have said the exact opposite when the framework agreement was signed June 6th last year

Yes, but on the other hand, the big business guys have very little experience having to navigate a sport where the players actually get a say, unlike the NFL or MLB where players are merely unionized employees. So, they can cut all the deals in the world, and they may make good business sense, but if the PGA Tour players say, "No, those guys are gone and we don't want them back," then there is no deal. I'm not saying that's the right choice for the players to make, but if that is their stance, then it is what it is. They learned that a few months ago:
Officials: "Hey, we cut a deal with the PIF."
Players: "No, you didn't."
Officials: "Yes, we did."
Players: "Well, we didn't, so you didn't."
No deal.

So once again, it’s the PGA Tour’s fault for the current state of professional golf?

PIF has every right to do their thing just like the tour has every right to do theirs. I have said that since the beginning. It’s nobodies “fault”. One entity throws around unlimited funds to do what they want and other adheres to its rules to try and survive

The big business folks have a way better chance of navigating this dynamic than the players have of structuring a multibillion dollar financial transaction between international entities. The chance of Jordan Spieth and Patrick Cantlay figuring out how to do that is effectively zero.

You're missing my point. There's no way that Spieth or Cantlay can organize a multi-million dollar deal. That's irrelevant:
Officials: "We're negotiated a great deal with the PIF."
Players: "No."
Officials: "But it's a great deal. You'll make money."
Players: "No."
Officials: "You'll never do any better on your own getting the LIV guys back on tour."
Players: "We don't want them back. We don't care how much money we will make. They p***sed us off so to hell with them. No deal."
For the players, it's totally personal. It has nothing to do with business. And I think the feeling is mutual on the LIV side. The LIV players and Greg Norman are all in on LIV Golf and feel the same way about the PGA Tour players.

You guys are not getting this. Jay has to be the man to do this or he would already have parted ways. The two have to merge at some point. Every major makes this worse.
Having a new guy come in for Jay right now would be crazy. Maybe after this deal is done.
