Is the 3W the worst value in the bag? $$/shot per round

I'm going get fitted for a new driver this weekend and I'm debating whether im going to drop $250+ on a 3w. I don't have one in my bag now and I maybe wish I had it 4 shots a round at the most.

I'll probably get one now that I'm improving my game and I'd like to reach some par 5's in two, but man its probably the worst bang for the buck in the bag no?

Pretty much, a lot of good fairway woods out there that aren’t the latest and greatest, once you find one you hit well don’t ever get rid of it.

I'm seriously considering dropping my 3 wood for a driving iron. I already have four wedges in the bag, and I hit my 5 wood great.

I don't think I've pulled the 3 wood at all in the last six months or so

A driving iron and a 5 wood are pretty much the same lofted club.

This is great advice. A lot of the guys formerly sponsored by Nike are still playing their 3w, especially on the WEB

I was thinking of going with a TM Gapr Lo 2 which is 17 degrees. My 5 wood is 19 degrees

GAPR is going to be very low spin so I guess that would be fine, but it's going to be low flight low spin

I hit my 3W 270 yards from the deck after a terrible drive the other day.

..then a wedge on my 3rd.

Putting for birdie.

My TM R7 3 wood will never come out of the bag....unless it breaks.

Took too long to find a 3W that I can command off the tee box and it goes straight when playing from the fairway.

Also use it for tough greenside chips

I hit my 3w a lot.
Most par 5’s, tee off with it some, and as a makeup club if my driver wasn’t great.

I might have hit my 5w five times in my life.

I dropped my 5 wood for a 3rd wedge and could not be happier with my decision.

Why are you only playing with 13 clubs?

I haven't bought a new three wood in a decade. Bought the one I currently have used. Find one you can hit straight and consistent, and there is no reason to change.

That said, it isn't my least used club in the bag. I probably use it as much or more than any club, other than driver, putter, or 60*. So, from a cost standpoint, it's worth it to me.

I am going to find a good condition back up one of these days. surprisingly, it's one of the few TM clubs that hasnt devalued itself a whole lot
