Well that was a dick move.

True and true. However, even though it technically was his ball, that was a dick move too.

Several years ago a few of us were playing Carter Plantation. I wanna say it was hole 17 but I could be wrong. Anyway a guy in our group snap hooks his drive, it skips off the water and slams into the side of a big nice boat. The most sickening golf ball on fiberglass sound you have ever heard
My buddy said he would buy each of us a case of beer if we skipped that hole and left "right now" we took him up on the offer.

I broke a window on the back 9 at Santa Maria, waited for the homeowner to come outside. I gave her my cell, after the round I stopped by and paid for the window. Evidently this has happened before because they knew the exact cost of the window.
I live on the course in pelican point, I get about one ball a week in the back yard per week. Occasionally I’ve heard a ball bounce off the roof - no biggie.
If a window was broken I would hope that the golfer would pay for the window. But that’s about it

Wow. I remember being on the course with a respected lawyer and posed this same question to him. He said you are responsible for the flight of your ball. Guess there is such a thing as a bad lawyer, right?

Nevertheless, I also experienced a golfer who hit his ball through a window. Ended up in someone's gumbo...kinda like Animal House. He paid for the damage. Maybe it was out of moral obligation.

My apologies for my err. Hit em straight!

The homeowner has an assumption of risk by buying a house that borders a golf course. They know that not every shot will be perfect.

There is no other response to the question than this.

Usually if I hit a house on a course, the ball is unfindable and I hit a provisional. I'm not always super consistent, but once I hit a house, I usually find my consistency and keep hitting it. . .

The ball was technically his.
How's that?

First, I put my hand over my mouth and breath in thru my teeth making a hissing sound, then I say 'shite' as I look at my playing partners.

Then I hit a provisional for out of bounds and play the hole.

I watched a Peoples Court episode once with Judge Whopner presiding. Case was about a woman who was driving in her car next to a golf course. Someone shanked a ball and broke her window. She chased the golfer down and got his name, he admitted to it and she took him to court for damages. Judge Whopner ruled in the golfers favor. He said if you knowingly drive next to a golf course or baseball field you know there's a chance you will get hit.

I have a friend that landed one in a swimming pool while two ladies were hanging out one time.
