I play a fade off the tee and some days it just won’t fade

Some days it’s easy as pie and other days I fight a draw, really it’s more like a straight pull.

My preferred ball flight is a pull cut, when I’m feeling good I can hit it on command and golf is easy. Recently I’ve struggled to control it, I’ll hit a straight pull and then next hole a big slice. I’m guessing it’s mostly a club face issue but happy for any insight.

Check your alignment and divots after a shot. That is the easiest tell. My coach at IMG first burned into our heads "head/shoulders/knees and toes when all goes to hell"

If divot is left and ball going left, that is alignment and club face
If divot is left and ball goes on target, that is alignment
If divot is at target and ball left, that is club face
If divot is at target and ball fades, you're "in alignment" per you.
If divot is right and ball going left, that is alignment and club face.
If divot is right and ball goes straight, that is club face.

This is strictly a tee shot issue, so there is no divot. Good advice though

I play a fade and don't mind a pull cut myself. Early in the year I started drawing off the tee and it was the absolute most frustrating thing I've ever had happen to my game since I started playing when I was 13

So much so that after playing 26 years i took my first lesson. Within 5 minutes/3 swings he fixed it. Without knowing it my takeaway was coming inside pretty significantly.

My range thought is wide take away, keep the right arm tucked in/no chicken wing, and on my finish act like I'm hitting it to right center of a baseball field. Makes me start online and finish strong.

Serious question: has your weight changed? It could be a path issue.

If all of a sudden you’re hitting draws, your hips are not shifting towards the ball, and you’re all arms.

No not to brag but I’m as serious about the gym as I’ve been in a long time. I’m 5’11 168lbs which is actually heavy for me, but it’s heavy because I’ve added muscle

This is pretty much me right now. Best example, I was playing in a tournament a few weeks ago and already hit a few tee balls that didn’t fade. On hole 13 there is a bunker and a lake left, lots of room right. I’ve played this hole 1000 times so I trust myself and aim at the bunker like I always do. My ONLY swing thought is hit a slice, I’m intending to banana slice this bastard. I’ve almost NEVER had to worry about the ball slicing when I’m trying to slice it. Then I hit a straight fricking pull draw right into the lake, I wanted to throw my fricking driver into that lake

Swing around the body not chopping it up and down, also bend at the waist for perfect posture.

Watched Paul Azinger give a lesson on draws and fades. Same swing every time. He just raised his left shoulder for a fade and leveled his shoulders for a draw. i went out and tried it, and it works for me, but hell if I can always remember that when I am playing.

Late to the party, but it sounds like we do the same thing. My game was in shambles for a bit from this.

Worked with my club pro to sort things out. This may not apply to you but the basics were poor alignment (body was open) and my swing path was too out to in. Not quite over the top but still coming too far from the outside for good compression and consistency.

The pulls came from when I would square the club face while swinging out to in and the slices from when it wasn't. Basically my body was open while making square contact making me pull it or open while not making square contact and fading / slicing it.

We worked on alignment, making sure my shoulders weren't open at address and that trail arm (right) wasn't over my front arm (left) at address as well. He wanted to see a gap between my forearms from the viewpoint of standing behind me. The "feel" that we worked through was keeping my back to the target longer through contact instead of feeling "open" at impact. That feel killed both the pulls and the weak fades and slices.

Game has been much better since then and picked up some significant distance as well. Hope that helps in some way, it'll make me feel like my dollar from lessons went farther

When I’m fading it early in a round it usually means a good day, at least from tee to green. Wish I could bottle it.
