Losing one golfer thats causing issues in place of scaring multiple customers off is actually a very smart business decision. How about you go be the superintendent and see how long the greens stay alive. I have 25 yrs in golf course maintenance and a superintendent for 9 of that so i know what goes on that you have no clue about. Outside workforce is absolutely terrible. No one wants to work. No one shows up constantly. You can have a staff of 8 and you may have 4-5 show up. Pretty dang positive the island , brec courses and others are absolutely having that issue. The island deals with the worst people to pull from because of location. If you knew what goes on behind the scene, youd praise their efforts and not complain about a hole on the green. I absolutely guarantee that. I praise every person in golf course maintenance because the pay is low, the work is extremely hard and stressful and because of having to deal with people like you so whan you bash a golf course over something so small without asking questions first, i take it personally because golf maintenance is one big family even if the courses are competitors. Now, move on and go play golf and back off the guys and gals that give their all to give you a place to play on

Every few days depending on amount of rounds being played, rain, and most importantly, after EVERY tournament. Nothing more infuriating than playing at my cc the day after a big 4 man scramble charity thing and our staff was too lazy or busy to cut new pins.

Yes. Ive met several supes over the years and the good ones all say about the same. Nothing else matters if your tees and greens arent as good as they can be.

Golfers congregate on every tee and every green all 18 holes. The 18th green is the last thing they'll see.

One told me years ago that if members are complaining about flower beds and length of rough youre probably doing a good job.

We are closed on Monday too and normally the pins are changed on Saturday but having two courses helps if I play one each day but the same pins and tee boxes on the weekends is lazy.
Im glad. They used to change daily and they would have dead old pin locations everywhere and it looked like shite

Also why in the frick do they insist on 16 oak playing at 200 yards every damn time now?

Pretty sure my course changes everyday. Problem I find is in each pin position (1, 2 , or 3) the hole is in pretty much the same damned spot 80% of the time. They could be a little more imaginative. Plus you end up with patches of old holes in the same general area.

Cups on the mag were destroyed on Saturday, really bad. I can’t imagine they were changed all week. Must have been putting all focus on the oak for club championship.

If they only knew with you in the field, it’s all irrelevant anyways

as a former superintendent (5 weeks) my plan in winter Nov-Feb was changing cups 2x week unless we had a large group, multiple day group, tournament, or a lot of play. If the holes needed changing, we changed them. March - October the plan on paper was Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday. If we played more than 90 rounds that day and the next day was busy also, we changed them. Cups are looked at every day for condition. tee markers are moved every time we mowed which was 2-3x week. the busy tee's were moved more often. I would send a team member out to check tees, if they were beat up (par 3's) or just worn out from lots of rounds in one spot, they were moved. not every tee on a hole was moved, just the ones with the most play. Labor is Definity an issue, and we had to make the best of our time. Greens, greenside bunkers, fairways and tees were most important. changing cups on a normal day is a one person job and takes 2-2.5 hours to do it right. then 1-2 team members blowing off greens behind the mowers depending on the amount of debris and clippings on the greens. on busy tournament days / shotgun starts, 2 team members changing cups, 2-4 team memebers blowing greeens, and the team hand raking bunkers. also 1-3 team members pulling hose hand watering greens as needed.

It'd a fricking joke. Course is sloped and rated with that hole playing 152 yards and 90% of the time (AT LEAST) the tee boxes are 40 yards past that and if you're playing twilight or a money game against a senior, they hit from 115.

Fred has one foot out the door and is just complacent to do things the way they have been done. "We're gonna play it up today everywhere except the bunkers."

Play it up for what? FWs are wide as hell and in great shape. You deserve what you get if you miss FWs out there.

Up isn't an issue an issue with me...up or down on most days I don't care...playing it up everywhere except the bunkers makes zero sense.

When the grass starts visibly dying around the lip (not to be confused with hole cutter ripping out the thatch).

I'll play both sides of the argument between OP x Robzilla.

I worked at a course when I was younger and I could change the holes out in just under an hour and a half. So, citing "busy staff" etc as a reason why the cups can't be moved 2x a week is kinda meh with me. I think courses should teach the marshals how to do it and let them change 2 or 3 out a shift and call it a day.

but, to bash an entire course over slowish greens (due to the amount of rain we've had) and pin changing rotation, in south Louisiana, is shortsighted. the Island is easiest the best bang for the buck. This is very low on my priority list when I play out there.
