I was a cart boy during college, one of the best jobs I ever had. Got free golf, free beer and free food out of it.

Where at?

Thinking about putting my sons on a fairway blower or mower team - so they can see the other side of golf operations.

Yessir. I was a cart jockey at SanDestin.

Tournament days were the lifeblood of our existence. We'd load up enough on box lunches and left-over beer to make it through the week

I’ve wanted to quit work and become a teaching professional. I love the ins and outs of the golf swing, but I don’t even know how to get started in it. I know there’s a few schools.

Call your PGA Section, get recommendations on the best Teaching Pros in your region.

Go apprentice with those guys. You'll have a head start on the PGM school guys , and good connections

I was a PGA Apprentice at one of the top 5 courses in NOLA in a former life. If you like long hours and no pay then becoming an Assistant Pro is the job for you. And teaching is only a small part of it, lots of course work to move up the ladder, plus you need to pass your PAT to get in the program. Which isn't that hard, shoot like 75-75 at a section course. At least that's how it was back in '04.

If you're in New Orleans, you can just go teach at City park for some kind of fee. There's a ton of people there doing it. If you want to learn while teaching, you would need to get to Florida or somewhere and intern for Mclean, Bender or someone like that. Get ready to make like $11 an hour if you go that route, though.

Worked through college as fairway and greenskeeper. Best job I have ever had. My retirement gig is going to be cutting grass at a golf course.

Worked in the pro shop for two years. If you are an early riser, it's awesome.

During the winter or rain events, you just sit in the shop, watch golf channel and mind the store. Would be days where no one would come in or only a few people. Could really do whatever I needed to do. During dead days, you could always sneak onto the range or putting green, as long as you could hear the phone.

Free golf.

I'd play 18 before and after afternoon shifts and play 36 after the morning shift. My first year and a half there, we had a really good group of cart guys and marshals, so there was always a game. Early morning for the guys working in the afternoon, afternoon game for the guys who worked the morning and the "we just closed up" game at 6:00 for everyone still around. If you don't have a bunch of guys that like to play golf working, it isn't as enjoyable.

If it wasn't for the paltry salary that the assistant pros made compared to hours put in, the working weekends thing, etc. it would have been an amazing job long term.

Worked in the golf business for 16 years. 10 of those as superintendent. It’s a tough business unless you’re at one of the top clubs. Money is tight and expectations never match the budget. Long hours and extremely weather dependent. I’m glad I’m out, but enjoyed most of my time in the business. I will say, if money was not important, and I could just mow and do fun stuff like that, then I would be all for it! I used to love to mow fairways!

I wish I had the time to get a part time job at a local golf course. I've been saying that for two years.

Was a Golf Professional for 31 years, before I got out of that business in 2010. Long hours, low pay to start as an assistant, and working every weekend was the low points. Playing rounds with the members at the clubs was great. Definitely don’t regret my time working in the Golf Business

worked for the grounds crew at Audubon in New Orleans when it first opened after the renovation while at LSU during the summers.

Would work from 6 to 2 and play golf rest of the day.

It was hot as frick but fantastic.
