Good for the Fitzpatrick brothers to pull it off. Great bunker shot

The chorus is getting louder from leading golf journalists to scrap the Zurich. In a way, Fitz getting his brother an exemption is going to put another nail in the coffin.

Golf journalists Ryan Lavner and Rex Hoggard have claimed that it will be in the PGA Tour’s best interest to scrap the Zurich Classic. The team event at TPC Louisiana is the fifth least-watched event on the PGA Tour schedule. And with Brian Rolapp set to make sweeping changes from 2027 onwards, the Zurich Classic seems to be an event that is under threat.

I doubt the number 3 player in the world winning the tournament and moving to #1 in the FedEx cup, combined with unique story of helping his brother (who was the #140 ranked player in the world prior to the tournament) reach his lifelong dream, is going to hurt the Zurich’s chances.
However I don’t think it’ll be enough to save it since it was otherwise a contest among nobodies, in a small market, on a subpar course, between major tournaments

Above lays out well where the Zurich is currently. Wouldn’t surprise me if this gets cancelled like LIV New Orleans in the future.

Wonder how that compares to the other non signature events.

Exact final-round numbers for events like Valspar Championship, Charles Schwab Challenge, CJ Cup Byron Nelson, Rocket Mortgage Classic, John Deere Classic, Wyndham Championship, etc., have not been widely reported yet in detail. These usually fall in the 1.8 – 2.7 million range on CBS/NBC when they have strong fields and good finishes.
Opposite-field events (Corales Puntacana, Puerto Rico Open, Myrtle Beach Classic, etc.) generally have the lowest viewership, often in the low hundreds of thousands on Golf Channel.
